The Thomas County Sheriff's Office would like to announce our new Chief Deputy, Marty West.
Here is a little background information on Chief Deputy West. Marty grew up on a farm in a small community before graduating from Pelham High School in 1990. West attended Valdosta State University graduating with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice in 1994. West attended the United States Marshals Service Basic Deputy US Marshal Academy and upon graduation in November 1994 was stationed to the Southern District of Florida, Miami Division. In 1996 West transferred to the Northern District of Georgia, Atlanta Division, where he worked Courthouse Operations before assignment to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Metro Fugitive Squad as well as the US Marshal’s Warrants Squad. In July 2000 West transferred to the US Marshals, Northern District of Florida, Tallahassee Division where he was assigned to the North Florida Violent Fugitive Task Force where he worked violent felony warrants. In 2010 West was promoted to Supervisory Inspector of the Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force. In 2017 West was promoted to Deputy Commander over the Florida Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force (FCRFTF) and oversaw violent felony fugitive operations across Central Florida, Northern Florida, and the US Virgin Islands with over 130 local/state/federal law enforcement officers serving under his command. West has served in multiple acting roles over his 30 plus years with the US Marshals to include Acting Chief Deputy, Northern District of Florida as well as Acting Commander for the FCRFTF on four separate occasions. West is a certified Tactical Training Officer for the US Marshals and an accredited Law Enforcement Adjunct Instructor by the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center. West recently retired from the US Marshals.
