The Hoof and Paw Benevolent Society is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization dedicated to helping protect, comfort and improve the lives of shelter animals in South Carolina. We strive to increase awareness of our cause, support adoptions, encourage spay/neuter and promote education to the general public about responsible pet ownership. The organization is run by animal-lovers, and we are always seek

🥺 Medical Expenses 🥺

Our partner, Journey Home Rescue Alliance , has taken in two very challenging cases recently:

1) Kiyah came down with pneumonia after a short boarding trip and had to be hospitalized as she was struggling to breathe. She is back with her foster and still on the mend. We are hopeful she will be making a full recovery, but those medical expenses are a lot for a large volume rescue.

2) Walter is a gorgeous, sweet 3yo fluffy nugget who watched his family abandon him when they drove away and left him behind. Journey Home took him in and got him the vetting and care he needed. Despite having a seriously rough start in this world, he is the goodest boy at his foster family’s home and is fitting right in as a pampered inside dog.

We are so happy we can help support Journey Home in these cases and we can’t do it without you. Thank you for supporting us so we can fund cases like these!

🚑 Medical Emergencies 🚑

We have been busy, busy! Thanks to your support, we’ve been able to help with several medical emergencies:

1) This sweet tan puppy, Butterscotch, came down with parvo and Fostering Foster Animal Rescue needed assistance securing medical care. Parvo is often fatal, but providing supportive care helps small bodies fight the cruel virus. We will continue to watch his recovery and hope he heals quickly.

2) For the Love of a Paw has two cats with severe ear polyps. The rescue needed assistance paying for the costly procedure. The cats are on the mend and we are thankful we could help.

3) PETSinc pulled three medical emergencies from a midlands county and needed assistance covering various ailments from surgery for bloat to heartworm treatment. We are thankful we could provide a medical donation to assist them in treating the three dogs they pulled.

We have more donations in the works and will update this page shortly on additional cases. We are so thankful for your support of our mission. Together we are am saving lives.

♥️ Heartworm Treatment ♥️

These three sweet souls are all heartworm positive….for now. Thanks to their rescue, The Bridge Between Animal Rescue, and YOUR generosity, these three are getting heartworm treatment!

This fatal (and entirely preventable) disease plagues many of our homeless animals, but, with your help, we are able to help rescues navigate the costly treatment. We have donated to this rescue to help cover the treatment of these pups. We can’t wait to see them in forever homes with healthy hearts!

✨BIG ANNOUNCEMENT✨

We are very excited to announce our FIRST ANNUAL 5K run/walk to support animals in need throughout South Carolina!

This event will be held at The Farm at Ridgeway, which is a stunning property offering a unique setting for this event. The course will be on private land and is a mixture of dirt road and paved surface. We are so thankful for the opportunity to offer this event in such a picturesque setting.

When: October 18, 2026
Race start: 2pm (gates open at 12:30pm)
Entry Fee:
🎟️$30 with shirt until May 31st
🎟️June 1-Sept 28th $35 with shirt
🎟️Sept 29th - race day $40 (no shirt guaranteed)

🏅 We will have awards for the top 3 finishers in each age group and for the top 3 male / female overall finishers!

🥺Barnwell Rescue 🥺

This is hard to see. Recently, Home for Good Dog Rescue pulled 11 dogs (10 younger pups and their mom) from horrific conditions at a residence in Barnwell County.

The dogs are fearful, sick, and need a ton of TLC and support. Luckily for them, they were pulled by a rescue that can provide them all they need to overcome their past. We are so thankful to Home for Good for helping this crew and we have donated in support of their recovery.

🐾💙 Fargo’s Law 💙🐾

This week, the SC state legislature PASSED Fargo’s law!

After 14 years of advocacy, the bill that bears the names of 8 law enforcement K9s who were killed in the line of duty, FINALLY passed!

This law increases the criminal penalties for harming or killing a law enforcement K9 or horse in the line of duty. This effort was started by Sgt. Cavanagh and his family after his K9, Fargo, was killed in 2011. Since then, 7 additional K9s have lost their lives and were added to the bill.

The legacy of Fargo, Wick, Mikka, Rico, Hyco, Koba, Bumi, and Kodak will protect those who still serve on the front lines - they will never be forgotten.
