Update! Stitch is scheduled to go home on Wednesday!
❤️🐾 **Let's Talk About Stitch. Because This Boy Deserves a Chance.** 🐾❤️
Okay, folks. We need to have a little heart-to-heart about Stitch. And, well, in Stitch's case, that's a pretty literal statement. 💔
We've gone back and forth about this sweet boy. We've had discussions. We've weighed the pros and cons. We've questioned what the right thing to do is. And we've spent a whole lot of time trying to figure out what his future should look like.
So, let's start with the good stuff!
**Is Stitch a good boy? OH, ABSOLUTELY!** ❤️
Stitch has gone on sleepovers with one of our employees, and you know what? He's a perfect little gentleman in the home! He's been fine with other dogs and cats, he's met older children and done beautifully, and he has absolutely no problem spending his days lounging around and enjoying the finer things in life.
Sounds like the perfect dog, right?
Well, here's where things get complicated.
**Stitch has a bad heart. And we mean that medically, because emotionally, his heart is pure gold.** 💔
Because of his heart condition, Stitch has some pretty significant limitations. Running around the backyard? Probably not a great idea. Playing fetch for an hour? Definitely not. Spending a hot summer afternoon romping around outside? Absolutely not.
Stitch needs a calm, quiet, low-activity lifestyle. Fortunately, that's pretty much his preferred lifestyle anyway. He's a professional lounger, and he's quite good at it!
But here's the really hard part.
**We don't know how much time Stitch has.**
We know that keeping him calm and avoiding overexertion gives him a better chance at having more time. But we can't make promises about how long that time will be.
And that's why we've struggled with whether to make him available for adoption.
Because we know that adopting Stitch means accepting some uncertainty. It means understanding that his medical needs are different. It means loving a dog without knowing how many tomorrows you'll get together.
But then we started thinking...
**Why shouldn't Stitch get a chance at a forever home?**
He's sweet. He's handsome. He's well-behaved. He's an absolute joy to have around.
And somewhere out there, we have to believe there's someone whose idea of a perfect Saturday involves sitting on the couch, watching television, eating snacks, and doing absolutely nothing productive.
Because guess what?
**STITCH HAS BEEN TRAINING FOR THAT EXACT LIFESTYLE HIS ENTIRE LIFE!** 😂❤️
He doesn't need a marathon runner. He doesn't need an adventure buddy. He doesn't need someone who wants to hike ten miles every weekend.
He needs a couch. A comfortable bed. A calm environment. Someone willing to work with a veterinarian to manage his heart condition.
And, most importantly, **he needs someone willing to love him for however long he has.**
Will that be a long time? We certainly hope so. But we just don't know.
What we DO know is that Stitch deserves happiness. He deserves a family. He deserves to spend his days being someone's beloved dog instead of waiting in a shelter kennel.
So, here we are. Taking a chance. Putting our hearts on the line a little bit. And hoping that somewhere out there is a person who sees Stitch not as a dog with a medical problem, but as a wonderful companion who just happens to need a quieter life.
We believe in this boy. Our staff believes in this boy.
**And now we're asking you to believe in him, too.** ❤️
If you think you might be the right person for Stitch, please reach out to Jasper County Animal Services. We'll be completely upfront about his condition, his limitations, and what caring for him may involve.
Because sometimes a forever home isn't about how much time you have together.
**It's about making whatever time you have absolutely wonderful.** 🐾❤️
Let's find Stitch his person. He deserves that much. ❤️
