We specialize in private lessons, dog behavior consultations, and teaching owners to understand why their dogs do the things they do in order to create a strong bond between the owner and dog. We thrive off of seeing the joy in both the dog’s and the owner’s faces when they h

🐾

Mochi and her owner came to us for lessons because walks had become a challenge. When they first started, Mochi struggled with avoidance and would become very nervous around the unfamiliar sounds throughout their neighborhood. She would put on the brakes, freeze, and become unsure of how to move forward.

Throughout their lessons, we’ve been working hard on building confidence, strengthening their relationship, and creating clear communication between Mochi and her owner. We also changed the tools they were using and focused on communicating with Mochi in a way that is clear, confident, and consistent—without coddling.

Another important part of Mochi’s transformation has been desensitization to sounds and new environments, helping her learn that unfamiliar noises don’t need to be something to fear.

And the results speak for themselves! 🙌

Mochi is now exploring her neighborhood with ease and even confidently trying out new places. Her relationship with her owner has grown tremendously, and Mochi now looks to her owner for direction and guidance rather than feeling like she has to navigate the world on her own.

Way to go, Mochi! 🎓🐾

Let’s talk BRAIN POWER! 🧠

Key Brain Regions Involved in Learning
🧠Olfactory Bulb: Located at the front of the brain, it processes scent. Because a dog’s primary sense is smell, scent-based games provide powerful cognitive enrichment.

🧠Cerebrum (Telencephalon): Responsible for high-level decision making, sensory processing, and learning new commands. Training directly engages this outer layer.

🧠Amgydala & Limbic System: Controls emotional responses like fear and stress. High stress inhibits learning, while positive reinforcement keeps the limbic system calm and receptive.

🧠Cerebellum (Metencephalon): Coordinates physical movement, balance, and motor skills. Complex agility training or balance exercises challenge this region.

Why Cognitive Training Matters❗️
⭕️Prevents Boredom & Destruction: Mental exhaustion uses significant brain energy, reducing stress-driven behaviors like excessive barking, chewing, or digging.

⭕️Builds Synaptic Connections: Just like humans, dogs form stronger neural connections when challenged with puzzles, trick training, and novel environments.

⭕️Delays Cognitive Decline: Continuous mental stimulation in adult and senior dogs helps preserve memory, attention, and problem-solving abilities as they age.

⭕️Strengthens Communication: Structured training teaches dogs how to look to handlers for cues, lowering frustration and strengthening trust.

🔆Understanding brain function and cognition is vital for any dog trainer or handler. Moving beyond basic command ex*****on to understand why a dog behaves or learns in a specific way fundamentally changes how you approach training and problem-solving.

Transformation Tuesday featuring Bugsy! 🐾

Bugsy and his family started their journey with Off Leash K9 Training shortly after bringing him home. Their goal was simple… set everyone up for success from the very beginning. Instead of waiting for unwanted behaviors to develop, they jumped right into our AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy program, with plans to continue building on Bugsy’s training through a Board & Train program down the road.

From the start, we focused on proper socialization, confidence building, and creating a sound, well-rounded puppy who could confidently experience the world alongside his family. We worked on building real-life skills—not just obedience in a controlled environment.

Now at just 6 months old, Bugsy is completing his Advanced Board & Train program, and let’s just say… he is a total ROCKSTAR! ⭐️

The best part? We aren’t starting from scratch or spending time fixing bad habits and undoing behaviors. Because his family chose to be proactive rather than reactive, we can focus on advancing his skills, working through real-life distractions, and preparing him to be the well-mannered dog they always dreamed of—one they can confidently take anywhere.

The Puppy Bundle has been such an incredible experience for both Bugsy’s family and his trainer. Before Bugsy even arrived for his Board & Train, his trainer had already met and worked with him seven times. That means:

🐾 Bugsy already knows and trusts his trainer.
🐾 His family knows he is in good hands.
🐾 Bugsy experiences less stress transitioning into training.
🐾 His trainer already understands Bugsy’s personality, strengths, challenges, and exactly what the family wants to achieve.

This is the power of proactive training. Instead of waiting for problems to happen, we’re building the foundation early and creating the skills Bugsy and his family will use for a lifetime.

And honestly? We are LOVING watching this puppy grow into the incredible dog he’s becoming! 💙🧡
