Reactive dogs aren't giving you a hard time. They're having a hard time. 🧡

1. RESPECT THEIR BUBBLE – Every reactive dog has a threshold distance where they notice a trigger but don't explode. Find that bubble and train there. Gradually shrink it—don't rush.

2. LAT (LOOK AT THAT) – When your dog looks at a trigger, mark it (“yes!” or a click) and reward. Repeat. They learn: “That scary thing = treats.” Their emotional response changes from fear to anticipation.

3. TURN AND MOVE – Practice emergency U‑turns at home first. When overwhelmed, say “this way!” turn around, and reward. Escape becomes a trained skill, not panic.

4. SHORT, CALM SESSIONS – Reactive brains fatigue fast. Five minutes of focused training beats an hour of frustration. Stop while they're still successful. Leave them wanting more.

5. MANAGE FIRST, TRAIN SECOND – Avoid known triggers while you train. Cross the street. Walk at quiet times. Management prevents rehearsal of reactive behavior. Success builds confidence.

The truth: Reactivity isn't defiance. It's fear. And fear can't be punished away—it must be replaced with safety and new associations.

With patience, compassion, and consistent brain training, reactive dogs can learn to feel safe in a scary world.
