šØā¼ļøBEING EUTHANIZED DEADLINE 9/23 šØā¼ļø BROWARD ANIMAL CARE. It's heartbreaking to know she may not make it out yet a photo of her smiling. PLEASE T LEAST SHARE HER TO GIVE HER A CHANCE. SHE DESERVES IT š
Gillian arrived at the shelter on 6/1/26 as a stray.
Gillian is urgently seeking transfer or adoption placement by September 23. She has made significant behavioral progress in a quieter environment such as view and quiet (please inquire rooms, but she cannot return to a regular shelter run because that environment substantially increases her Fear, Anxiety and Stress (FAS). When Gillian first arrived, she was fearful and overwhelmed. She could be vocal in her kennel, kept her tail tucked on walks, avoided eye contact and remained distant from handlers. As she became familiar with staff, however, a very different side of Gillian began to emerge. Gillian has been described as sweet, friendly, gentle and easygoing. She has approached familiar staff for attention, leaned into people for affection, rolled over for belly rubs and enjoyed rolling around in the grass. She knows āsit,ā enjoys chasing toys in the yard and has frequently gone to the bathroom outside. Several handlers have reported that she walks very well once settled. Gillianās primary behavioral concern has been leash biting/redirection when she becomes highly aroused or stressed. During one incident, she redirected from the leash onto a staff member, resulting in a bite (please inquire for further details). Gillian subsequently completed her mandatory 10-day rabies quarantine without clinical signs of rabies. Since completing quarantine and moving into a quieter environment, Gillianās FAS has decreased significantly. Recent walks have shown encouraging progress. Although she may initially grab or bite at the leash, she has demonstrated an ability to respond to verbal interruption and then continue walking appropriately. During recent outings, she has rolled in the grass, accepted affection, leaned into a handler for a hug and returned inside without issue. Gillian has also participated in a parallel walk with another dog. She initially appeared fearful when the other dog became overly excited or approached too quickly, choosing to create distance and displaying defensive signals. As the other dog settled, Gillian relaxed and eventually chose to approach and sniff him.
Based on this observation, she appears uncomfortable with high-energy or intrusive approaches from other dogs and would benefit from thoughtful, controlled introductions. Medically speaking, Gillian is spayed, microchipped and vaccinated. She is also heartworm positive and has begun the treatment process, including doxycycline prior to her heartworm injections. Gillian needs an experienced adopter or rescue group who understands canine stress and arousal, can safely manage her leash behavior and can provide the calmer, structured environment in which she has already shown she can do much better. Gillian has shown us that underneath her fear and overstimulation is a playful, affectionate dog who can connect with people and respond to guidance. The regular shelter environment simply isnāt the right place for her to continue making progress. Please help us find Gillian the experienced placement she needs.
