Yesterday the kids and I took a drive and picked up 258 pounds of rabbit parts & chicken feet and 53 dozen eggs (yes 636 eggs π). Although a tiny fortune, this was all heavily discounted rather than buying periodically throughout the year from a store - and it is fresh, organic & local!
Feeding animals, especially some exotics, is not exactly affordable but we try to offer as much variety, nutrition & enrichment options as possible. It might be a little more work to process all of this, but in the end, pennies count! We've had two amazing volunteers offer to work on boiling & packaging the eggs & we will be dropping off rabbit and chicken feet to be freeze-dried next week at a local shop.
At our exotic program today, we met a new friend who asked if she could support us with a donation. I always feel a bit uncomfortable with donations as we are a for-profit business - not a nonprofit, shelter, rescue etc. I tell people this & they basically say "nonsense! we want to support the animals!" Donations & most of our profit DOES go back to raise, vet, house & feed the animals. We get the leftovers & that's just fine with us! Donations are an amazing blessing to help offset operation costs just a little bit more, so we are always thankful.
Once we got cell service after our program, her donation came through & honestly made me pause mid-step. It was so incredibly generous, and, unknown to her, covered ALL the raw product we had just bought the day prior...almost down to the exact dollar.
God has a humbling, beautiful way of reminding you that he will provide if you trust Him to.
Anyway, I better get back to peeling eggs π
