Berkeley Animal Care Services The Berkeley Animal Care Services shelter is responsible for the community's animals in need. We are the volunteers of Berkeley Animal Care Services.

If you are interested in adopting one of the animals featured on this page, please visit or call BACS directly. As we are only volunteers and not employees of the shelter, we may not have the most current information available, although we do try and keep this page as updated as possible. Information regarding adoption fees, criteria and special programs is provided as a courtesy for prospective a

dopters. It is set by the City of Berkeley and Berkeley Animal Care Services, not the volunteers who maintain this page.

Adoption Fees:
Dogs $125.00 / Cats $100 -- include shots, microchip, spay or neuter
Rabbits, BIrds, Exotics: $25
Rodents: $10

60/6/60 Adoption Program, Partnering Senior Animals with Senior Friends -- If you are 60 or older and adopt an animal who is 6 or older, you'll get 60% off the adoption fee! Adoption Criteria:
In order to qualify as an adopter, you must bring proof of home ownership or your rental contract showing you are allowed to have pets before the adoption can be completed. If you're coming to adopt a new family or household pet, please bring your family members or other members of the household with you to the shelter -- including any other dogs in the family. We want to make sure your new dog is a good fit for both 2-leggers and 4-leggers alike.

Anubis is back at the shelter just days after being adopted, and is once again available. He is understandably disappointed to be in his kennel again, as this guy is a social, energetic young dog and shelter life is wearing on him. Anubis would thrive in home where his needs and energy level are understood. This lovable boy is on the rebound and looking for that special someone!

Update: ADOPTED!!

Chloe knows exactly what she wants out of life—and, perhaps more importantly, exactly what she doesn’t want. She may be a bit standoffish at first, but she’s just making sure everyone understands that she has opinions, boundaries, and absolutely no problem expressing either. This tiny girl may be small, but she sure is confident! And this little lady likes things her way. Young children? Too much. Pushy, overly playful animals? Soooooo annoying. She'd much rather have a home where she can enjoy her space and her people without anyone getting all up in her business, unless she wants you to! But if you’re willing to respect her boundaries, appreciate her big personality, and perhaps even spoil her a bit, Chloe may decide you are worthy of her presence. And honestly? Being chosen by the queen is quite an honor.

Kimiko is a very sweet and social shepherd mix with a playful spirit and a whole lot of affection to share! She can be a little cautious when encountering new things, but once she knows she’s safe, her loving personality truly shines. Whether she’s zooming around with other dogs, playing with her favorite people, or entertaining herself with a toy, if there’s fun to be had, Kimiko is all in! She can get a bit overly excited when greeting new humans and canine friends on walks, but with some guidance, consistency, and patience from the right people, we know she’ll continue growing into the best canine companion. Kimiko has so much love, enthusiasm, and personality to share, and she can’t wait to show you just how special she is!

Every garden needs a bright spot, and Butternut is ready to be the sunshine in yours. This super friendly, social, lover boy is all about people, playtime, and making new friends (two or four legged), wherever he goes. With his sunny spirit and affectionate heart, Butternut is ready to brighten everyone’s day with all the tail wags, snuggles, and goofy charm he can muster.

He loves walking with his best buds and shows more confidence in this big, scary world when with other dogs. Come check him out!
