*graphic image of surgery in second photo! No, you’re not seeing things! We also help dogs through our spay/neuter and surgery program. This is Lola - she is 11 years old and loved by her mom and dad. Unfortunately, Lola became ill late last week and was diagnosed with a pyometra. Pyometra is a life-threatening infection of the uterus that requires emergency surgery. Lola’s case was an “open” pyometra which means her cervix was open enough to allow the infection to partially drain as a mix of pus and bloody vaginal discharge 🤢 Dogs typically have “closed” pyometras which means the pus continues filling the uterus and causes it to rupture. In both cases, surgery is done to remove the uterus and ovaries. Spaying dogs is the only way to prevent pyometra and it’s much less risky to spay a healthy dog than to spay a dog with pyometra. Lola’s parents were quoted $7,000 for the surgery at a local emergency vet. Most people can’t afford a bill like that, especially now when prices for everything has gone up so much. They reached out for help on Facebook and I just happened to see the post. After some back-and-forth to gather information about Lola, we scheduled her to have surgery with our vet the next morning. Lola did great! She went home last night and the prognosis is good - and we were able to provide this life-saving care for just $450. We now offer spay/neuter services for dogs in addition to cats (and guinea pigs and opossums and rats - all critters we have helped in the past hehe). Appointments can be scheduled on our website at www.feline-fix.org/spay-neuter

Happy Monday update! Calvin, who has been with us for awhile, went to his forever home today! This guy came to us with horrific wounds to his left ear - he had ear mites and had dug so hard at his ear that it was partially torn off and dangling. Our vet tried to re-attach it several times but Calvin kept breaking it back open and refused to wear an e-collar. So, we took the whole ear off! He turned into a big mushy love bug once he realized how sweet indoor life can be. And when he went to he was in heaven. Visiting with everyone and flopping down on the nearest lap became his routine. But now he will be spoiled by his new mom. Thank you for giving this guy a wonderful home!

Do any of our followers have the ability to replace a door to our building without replacing the metal frame? Purchasing a whole new door (even without the frame) is cost prohibitive - in the several thousand dollar range - so I’m hoping it is possible to retrofit a regular exterior door in its place. If that isn’t an option, then I am also fine with replacing the whole thing with a new frame and exterior door. It’s attached to brick/concrete which isn’t something I’m interested in messing with myself 🙂

Please let me know if you can help or if you know someone who can so I can get some quotes for installation!
