Throwback to the day Marllow helped locate Phil, the dachshund who went missing and got stuck in a swamp next to home. This was an emergency track and we got there as soon as we could. Phil’s parents didn’t know if he had gotten himself out or was still stuck in there - they had searched everywhere. Within half an hour, Marllow had confirmed that Phil hadn’t left the swamp and was still in there.
Dad went back in to look again, and found Phil stuck neck-deep in the water. He was rescued safely ❤️ This is why I will never stop working with Dogs Finding Dogs and training scent K9’s

Impulse control training and cheese go a long way with my dogs. (Remember, what’s high value to my dogs might not be what’s high value to yours. Each dog is unique and has his own preferences)
Impulse control is beneficial for all dogs to learn and is the basis for a great Sit/stay, Down/stay, Leave It, and Place. It teaches your dog to take a step back, think, and decide, instead of just exploding into a decision.

We all just need a cute dog video and a little laughter every now and again, so here’s a one minute compilation of Marllow as she grew up. You guys always see her working/training side, so here’s something a little different to make you smile 😃

Puppy exposure/socialization is SO important. It is imperative to expose puppies to as many new stimuli as possible during their critical socialization period (7-16 weeks old). Once that window closes, it becomes difficult to change how your pup experiences new things, whether it’s positively or negatively.

During our socialization outing, we used this session to expose Stanley to Halloween decorations. This is a good idea to get your puppy used to Spooky season and all of the Halloween costumes/decorations that the season brings. Since mom had already done a fantastic job exposing Stanley to new stimuli, we were comfortable allowing him to be close to the decorations. Note - we did not force Stanley in any way near these. We walked him over and allowed him to sniff and get as close as he wanted. If he had shown signs of stress, we would have allowed him to increase his distance and investigate again in order to bounce back.

I encouraged mom to take Stanley to more Halloween stores to continue exposing Stanley to more spooky decorations. This helps with generalization. The more positive interactions a puppy has with stimuli across a variety of environments, the better! Stanley did so well!

Ladies and gentlemen we have an announcement to make! Second Chance Dog Training is now offering VIRTUAL TRAINING! Woot Woot.
Thank you all SO MUCH for your patience while I took the time to roll this out. A virtual training section has now been added to my website https://secondchancedogtraining.org/virtual-training

I have also done a restructure with how training sessions are implemented. I have found that most people want training to start right away during the Meet & Greet Consult. So, I listened.

To increase efficiency and get your training started quicker, Meet & Greet Consultations will now be extended an extra 30  minutes. They will automatically include a Welcome Folder with an extensive amount of handouts/information to help you throughout the training process, and a custom Training plan created by me to guide you on what to do moving forward.
All training plans will be emailed to you directly within 48 hours after the Meet & Greet.

Because the Meet & Greet and first session are now combined, prices have been adjusted accordingly. However, all travel fees have now been removed. I am doing my best to make sure that training is both affordable and accessible while being as efficient as possible – I know how valuable your time is and how important your dogs are! Thank you guys for being so incredible
