One of the best things you can teach your puppy is to p*e on command.
Here's how we do it:
At this age, puppies need to go out every 30-60 minutes, and always in between activities, after playing, after a nap, after eating or drinking. Setting that routine is half the battle.
When you head outside, keep the leash short and keep them focused-no walking, no playing, no distractions. The only goal right now is business. Repeat your cue word consistently ("go p*e p*e," "go potty," whatever you choose — just stick with it) the entire time you're waiting.
The moment they go, reward immediately. Not after you walk back inside, right then, in that spot.
With enough repetition, your puppy learns that the word means go. Which means eventually you can ask them to go on command before a car ride, before bed, before a long meeting and they will. No more waiting in the cold.
It takes patience upfront but saves so much time in the long run. 🐶
