: When You Help the Animals, You Help the Community

At Faeryland’s Farm Menagerie, caring for rescued animals is at the heart of everything we do—but their impact reaches far beyond the Farm.

Our animals help us serve our community through educational visits with schools, homeschool groups, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts; wellness-focused visits with children, veterans, older adults, and people with disabilities; virtual animal visits for assisted-living communities; and other outreach designed to create moments of connection, learning, comfort, and joy.

Every community visit begins with healthy, safe, well-cared-for animals.
Your donations help provide the food, veterinary care, shelter, transportation, training, and daily care that make this work possible. When you help us care for the animals, you are also helping us bring meaningful experiences into classrooms, community programs, assisted-living facilities, and other spaces where a little connection can make a very big difference.

People love the rescue moment.

They love the roadside photo. They love the dramatic caption. They love being told what a hero they are for “saving” an animal.

What they do not seem nearly as interested in is what happens after they hand that animal off to a rescue or sanctuary and walk away.

That is when the actual work starts.

Food. Vaccines. Preventatives. Vet bills. Spay/neuter. Training. Fencing. Cleaning. Time. Adoption screening. And sometimes months or years of care.

Picking up an animal is not the same thing as committing to its future.

And no, every loose dog is not automatically abandoned. Sometimes a dog belongs nearby. Sometimes the responsible thing is to check for an owner, scan for a chip, call animal control, and make a real effort to reunite the animal before hauling it somewhere else and making it somebody else's problem.

Because that is what often happens.

Someone gets praised online for “rescuing” the animal, then a rescue or sanctuary gets handed the financial burden, the responsibility, and the long-term care with little or no support from the people applauding the original post.

We just had another large dog dumped on us.

That means at least another $100 a month in basic care before we even start talking about medical expenses.

So if you want to call yourself a rescuer, understand this:
The rescue does not end when you pick the animal up.

It ends when that animal is safe, cared for, medically supported, housed, trained if needed, and given a real long-term plan.

If you hand the animal to a rescue and disappear, then the rescue organization is the one doing the rescuing.

And if you are going to celebrate the person who found the animal, maybe put some of that same energy into supporting the people who are still feeding it six months later.

🐶🎾 **National Fetch Day – October 17!** 🎾🐶

Ready, set, FETCH! 🐾💚

October 17 is National Fetch Day, and we’re celebrating one of our favorite ways dogs enjoy playtime! Whether it’s a tennis ball, a favorite squeaky toy, or a good old-fashioned stick, there’s nothing quite like watching a happy pup chase, retrieve, and bring it back for *just one more throw!* 🐕💨

Fetch is more than just fun! It can help dogs:
🎾 Get exercise and burn off energy.
🐾 Practice coordination and agility.
💚 Strengthen the bond they share with their humans.
🐶 Enjoy mental stimulation and enrichment.

Of course, every dog is different! Some love chasing balls, while others prefer sniffing adventures, tug-of-war, or simply lounging in a sunny spot. The best playtime is the kind your dog enjoys safely and willingly. ❤️

🎬🐐 I have no idea who this dude is, but apparently he works for Goat Training Camp now.

And honestly? I like him, so he can stay. 😂

I have been having a lot of fun learning my new video creation program. We already made our conditioning video using live goat footage, and this one combines animation, narration, education, and the actual goats.

This newest video is about how goats learn and why every goat has to be approached a little differently in training.

Our furry friends bring so much joy to our lives, and one of the best ways we can show them love is by helping them stay healthy!

🐶🐱 Extra weight can put added stress on joints, affect mobility, and increase the risk of health problems. The good news? Small, consistent changes can make a BIG difference!

💚 Here are a few ways to support your pet’s health:
🐾 Measure food portions and follow appropriate feeding guidelines.
🐾 Keep treats in moderation.
🐾 Make time for daily walks, playtime, and enrichment.
🐾 Schedule regular veterinary checkups to monitor their weight and overall health.

Good animal welfare means providing nutritious food and clean water, appropriate shelter, veterinary care, exercise and enrichment, companionship, and an environment where animals can express their natural behaviors. Most of all, it means treating every animal with kindness, patience, compassion, and respect. ❤️
