This is insane! What are we doing people?

This is insane! What are we doing people?

Atlanta, we need 82 homes by 7 PM tonight.

Last week alone, we took in 185 dogs, pushing our shelter well over capacity. Right now, dozens of dogs are waiting for someone to say “yes” to fostering or adoption.

If you’ve been thinking about fostering, today is the day. If you’ve been considering adoption, now is the time.

Every foster home creates space. Every adoption saves a life.

If you can’t foster or adopt, please share this post. A simple share could help one of these dogs find the person they’ve been waiting for.

Our intake has been closed almost a year now due to funding and adoptions. It will remain closed unless we stabilize. Thank you for understanding.

Ok Maryland (my home state)

For years, the volunteers who care for outdoor community cats have existed in a kind of legal gray zone. In many places, they risk being cited for abandonment simply for doing TNR, which involves trapping cats, getting them spayed or neutered, and returning them to their outdoor homes.

A landmark bill introduced in Maryland in February 2026 aims to change that, not just in Maryland, but potentially across the country.

Ash's Law, House Bill 912 and Senate Bill 750, was drafted by Alley Cat Allies and introduced in the Maryland legislature. If passed, it would make Trap-Neuter-Return the official state policy for community cats throughout Maryland. More importantly, it would prevent any county or city within the state from banning or restricting TNR programs.

The bill is named after a community cat named Ash. It also addresses the abandonment issue directly, amending Maryland state law to ensure that individuals carrying out TNR cannot be criminally charged for returning a cat to its outdoor home after the procedure.

This is significant because the current situation in many jurisdictions is deeply counterproductive. The very act of helping a community cat through a responsible, humane, evidence-based program can expose a volunteer to legal consequences. That discourages participation and leaves cats worse off.

Supporters of the bill include advocates, veterinary professionals, and legal experts. Opposition has come primarily from county government representatives concerned about losing local authority to set their own animal control policies.

The bill is being watched nationally as a potential model for similar legislation in other states.

Peter Dinklage has used his influence for years to advocate for animal welfare and encourage people to consider adopting pets from shelters. 🐕❤️ The acclaimed actor, best known for his role in Game of Thrones, has partnered with PETA on multiple campaigns promoting pet adoption and raising awareness about puppy mills and irresponsible breeding practices.

Dinklage has argued that many people acquire pets without fully understanding the long-term commitment involved, which can contribute to overcrowding in animal shelters when animals are later surrendered. By sharing his message with millions of fans, he hopes to encourage prospective pet owners to visit shelters first and give homeless animals a chance at finding loving homes.

Animal welfare organizations report that millions of dogs and cats enter shelters in the United States each year. While many are successfully adopted, shelters in some regions continue to face overcrowding and resource challenges. Advocates of the “adopt, don’t shop” movement believe that choosing adoption can help reduce the number of animals waiting for homes while supporting rescue organizations working to care for them.

For Dinklage and many other animal welfare supporters, the message is simple: before purchasing a pet, consider the animals already waiting in shelters. For many of those dogs and cats, adoption can mean the difference between spending years in a shelter and finding a permanent family. 🐾🏠

I never imagined I would be in this position. Never in all the years I have helped animals until becoming a rescue.

Our electricity is scheduled to be shut off in a few hours, and I have been trying everything possible to prevent it—every time I have found a way to make ends meet, except this time. People make you feel like you can't ask for anything when donations are a must. We need $1262. We have had next to nothing coming in. I already applied for assistance on February 9th and did not receive a response until May 18th — over 3 months later — only to be asked again for information that had already been submitted. And still had to be approved if approved.

I expressed back in January how far behind I already was financially and instead of understanding, I was mocked and told what I should have. There seems to be this belief that small rescues are supposed to somehow carry all of this. But rescue run on donations, support, networking, and community. When help is not there, the burden falls directly onto the rescuers trying to save lives often forcing us to close.

Many small rescues face situations like this quietly — not because of irresponsibility, but because the cost of just food and basic utilities alone adds up faster than most people realize, especially when you're getting a few donations here and there.

Time ran out faster than resources came in.

This rescue has been built around saving animals nobody else stepped up for, many within minutes or past the deadlines of euthanasia. I do not regret saving them, but financially we are drowning trying to keep everyone fed, safe, and cared for.

Please understand this is extremely embarrassing and heartbreaking for me to even post. And I mean extremely difficult. I know this will still come with backlash, finger-pointing, and whatever else people do to tear my rescue down. But I still stand.

If anyone can help with donations, shares, resources, or prayers, it would mean everything right now.

Please keep kindness in mind or keep scrolling. I don't need negativity I get enough of it behind the scenes. This has been one of the hardest and most humbling moments of my life. Have questioned everything about the rescue world from what I have been through. Even my faith is fading.

Thank you to our few generous Pack Supporters who contributed to the food. It's truly a blessing. My anxiety can take over so much just over food but God always shows me who is there for them every time I feel embarrassed to ask as this is a constant need. We have enough food for about 5/6 days if any more generosity is out there. The Pack welcomes it 🦋
