I got ice cream I didn’t need.
Calvin wore a muzzle so he didn’t make poor decisions around passing dogs.

One of us has better impulse control than the other.

🐾 Manners Monday

Confidence is earned, not installed.

When we first approached these metal bleachers, this guy wanted nothing to do with them. Instead of forcing the issue, we broke the challenge down into smaller pieces and let him work through the uncertainty.

A few repetitions later, he was confidently jumping between bleachers and offering sits and downs on cue.

Good manners aren’t just about obedience—they’re about building a dog that can navigate the world with confidence.

Yeah, my shoes are weird. 👣😂

But there’s a reason.

Just like I’m working on foot strength by changing how I train my body, dogs need variety to build confidence, resilience, and real-world skills.

Great dog training isn’t just obedience. It’s built on multiple pillars:

🐾 Socialization
🐾 Problem Solving
🐾 Behavior Management
🐾 Agility & Body Awareness

The strongest dogs aren’t the ones that can only sit and stay, they’re the ones that can adapt to whatever life throws at them.

Watch for hot pavement, limit exercise during peak heat, bring water, and know when to call it a day.

Every week I commit the same crime…

I steal dogs from their families, spend the day teaching them better life skills, and return them suspiciously more well-behaved.

Day Training is perfect for busy owners who want professional training without sending their dog away for weeks.

Everybody wins (except the dog’s bad habits).

Senior dogs deserve more than a comfy bed and shorter walks. 🐾

Mental enrichment can help keep aging dogs engaged, confident, and excited about their day. The goal isn’t to ask them to do what they did at 2 years old…it’s to meet them where they are and continue giving them opportunities to explore, learn, and enjoy life.

A tired senior dog isn’t always a fulfilled senior dog.

A fulfilled senior dog is one whose needs are still being met. ❤️

13.1 miles through Portland’s Old Port, fueled by great energy, incredible spectators, and one thing that always catches my attention… dogs. 🐾🏃‍♂️

As a dog trainer, I couldn’t help but notice how many dogs were out enjoying the race atmosphere right alongside their owners. Crowds, music, cheering, strollers, other dogs, runners everywhere—and so many of them handled it like pros.

That’s the beauty of proper socialization. It’s not about teaching a dog to love every person, dog, or situation. It’s about helping them confidently navigate the world around them without becoming overwhelmed by it.

When a dog can relax and exist comfortably in busy environments, everyone wins. Owners get to enjoy experiences together, athletes like me get a little extra motivation along the course, and dogs get to be part of life’s adventures.

To all the well-behaved pups I met along the route: thanks for the extra boost to the finish line. 🐕❤️

The scenery is beautiful, the weather is perfect, and all I can think about is how much I miss the dogs back home. 🐾😂

Looking forward to race day, but I’m definitely looking forward to getting back to my favorite training partners, too.
