Good morning, everyone!

We are working on streamlining things more here at The Silkie Lab, to ensure you continue to have good response times to your questions and have things be a little easier on our end.

So moving forward, we have set up an auto responder to our messenger here. If you have a question about your order (not including eggs or birds, just DNA Testing), it will tell you to please go to the website and use our Live-Chat. Our Live chat connects directly to your account on my end and I can see all of your past orders immediately. If we aren't open when you send the live chat or you won't be sticking around, it will allow me to send you an email as a response.

Please try to reach out there first regarding any order questions!

We are looking to focus more on one strong point that The Silkie Lab offers. What is your favorite thing about our DNA Testing business? Example, if you were to recommend us to someone - what would be the main reason why?

I had a crazy revelation on Friday. One of those realizations that sounds small at first, but then suddenly explains way more about you than you expected.

As a kid, I was obsessed with *Dragon Warrior Monsters*. I played it constantly. I even owned the strategy guide, and I would sit there studying the monster breeding combinations, trying to figure out what pairings created which monsters, what traits carried forward, and how to unlock something rare or better. I was also obsessed with dinosaurs. Ancient creatures, strange features, classifications, mystery, science, imagination. Dinosaurs felt real and magical at the same time.

Then, for most of my teenage years and college, that part of me kind of went quiet. I was not doing anything with creature breeding, genetics, dinosaurs, or that deep childhood obsession with rare animals and hidden traits. Life moved on. I grew up, worked, went to school, built skills, and did normal adult things.

But looking back now, I don’t think that part of me ever actually left. It was just waiting for the right place to land. And somehow, that place ended up being Silkies.

Silkies feel like the real-life version of the things my childhood brain loved: tiny strange creatures, visible traits, hidden genetics, rare colors, unexpected outcomes, and the constant question of, “What could this pairing create?” They are basically tiny living dinosaurs with genetics you can actually study. Black skin, extra toes, crests, feathered feet, fluffy feathers, unusual colors, broody personalities, and all these traits that can be selected, tested, understood, and improved over generations.

And then The Silkie Lab became the piece that made it all click. The lab work is where the wonder turns into answers. It takes the mystery I have always been drawn to and gives me a way to actually understand it. DNA, traits, inheritance, pairings, results, patterns, testing, and helping breeders see what is happening beneath the surface. It is science, but it still feels connected to the same childhood part of me that wanted to understand rare creatures and how they were made.

For years, I think I felt like something was missing, but I could never quite name it. Now I think I know. It was this. The animals. The genetics. The mystery. The science. The breeding projects. The tiny dinosaur-looking birds. The feeling of chasing a possibility and slowly figuring out the rules behind it.

That is also why I know this is the right area for me to be working in. It does not feel like something I randomly picked. It feels like something I circled back to. Something that was always embedded in me, even during the years when I was not actively doing anything with it.

I can genuinely see myself doing this for many, many years. Building the lab, improving the testing, learning more genetics, developing breeding projects, helping other breeders, and continuing to chase those little mysteries that made me fall in love with this world in the first place.

I didn’t realize until Friday how much this all connects back to who I was as a kid, but now that I see it, it makes perfect sense. I have always loved rare little creatures. I have always wanted to understand how traits are passed down. And apparently, after years of not knowing where that part of me belonged, I finally found it again in Silkies and in the lab work that helps make sense of them.

This does not feel like a phase or a passing interest. It feels like something embedded into my soul.

I could not get a great picture of the second chick, but I wanted to share an example of another thing I will be working on in my Lavender Pen this year. DARK skin & beaks! Do you see how dark the beak is on the first chick compared to the second? 🥰
