Daisy mama popped overnight! Look at that belly! We are almost into week 5!
🤰🏼🐾 The first five weeks of pregnancy are some of the most important weeks in a puppy’s development, even though you can’t see much happening from the outside.
During this time, those tiny babies are developing their major organs, nervous system, heart, and spine. Mom’s body is working overtime to give them everything they need, which is why nutrition matters long before her belly starts to grow. 💕
One thing I believe strongly in is feeding real, whole foods alongside a balanced, high quality diet. Every breeding program is different, but I love adding fresh foods like lean meats, eggs, plain yogurt, cottage cheese, sardines, blueberries, carrots, pumpkin, and other dog-safe fruits and vegetables. These foods provide natural vitamins, minerals, healthy fats, and antioxidants that help support both mom and her growing puppies. 🫐🥕🍳
It is also important not to overfeed during these first few weeks. Puppies don’t do most of their growing until the last few weeks of pregnancy, so the focus early on should be quality nutrition rather than simply increasing the amount of food.
Just as important as diet is keeping mom happy and stress free. Gentle exercise, plenty of fresh water, routine veterinary care, and lots of love all play a role in supporting a healthy pregnancy. ✨
Behind every healthy litter is months of planning, health testing, proper nutrition, and countless little decisions that happen long before puppies ever make their arrival. Raising healthy puppies truly starts before they are even born, and I love giving my moms and their babies the very best foundation possible.🥰
Every healthy puppy begins with a healthy mama. ❤️
