True-Blue Pet Rescue

True-Blue Pet Rescue PLEASE NOTE: OUR RESCUE IS NOW CLOSED. True-Blue Pet Rescue saves desperate dogs and helps them find loving adoptive homes.

Our pets come from high-kill shelters, those that have been abandoned, and those that are sick or injured and need medical attention to go on to live normal lives. We are True-Blue friends to these True-Blue pets. We are licensed through PACFA, the regulating body for animal care in Colorado.

True-Blue Pet Rescue has been working to help dogs in need since 2016. We started off with a different name and different people, except for one, who would break off and start True-Blue as it is now. Back then, our mission was networking dogs to other rescues, trying to get them out of Shawnee, Oklahoma. The shelter in Shawnee only gave dogs 48 hours before euthanizing them, using a horrific gas chamber. Thanks to nationwide exposure and the advocacy of the people there, the gas chamber was removed. That event triggered some changes for True-Blue and the homeless dogs in Oklahoma.

Now that there wasn’t the urgency and focus on that shelter, our attention turned to the stray dogs of Oklahoma. There is a huge problem of people just dumping their dogs to fend for themselves. It’s a cruel and heartless act that is devastating for a dog, now left to defend itself from coyotes, wild packs of dogs, starvation, and disease. It was, and is still a heartbreaking situation.

We became True-Blue, with a dedicated and passionate new Board of Directors who all came together to do what is right for those, and other dogs. We brought them from those desperate situations, to Colorado, where they were welcomed and loved. We started doing our own adoptions, and have placed hundreds of previously desperate and unwanted dogs into homes where they are cherished and nurtured.

We have provided every dog in our rescue with vaccinations, medical care, sterilizations, foster homes where they could learn to trust again, and most importantly, our very best efforts to place them with the best fit for their needs. We take the placement of our dogs very seriously, and have committed to being there for them for the long run.

This year has been unlike anything we’ve ever experienced, and it has changed us. And it’s changed the trajectories of our lives in different ways. We are all unpaid volunteers, and trying to balance the work of the rescue with other commitments in our lives was becoming unmanageable. The hard decision was made to close True-Blue Pet Rescue. We regret that we are no longer able to help the dogs as we once did. However, we will continue to provide support to other reputable rescues as we are able. We will continue to honor our commitments to adopters and our veterinarians, and will keep our finances and communication methods in place to provide for those commitments until they are fulfilled.

We want to give our most sincere thank you to all of you who have supported us in our mission. We truly couldn’t have done it without you. Your dedication and compassion was seen in every shared post, donation, foster placement, and adoption. We know there are many other wonderful rescues in our state that are also doing the right thing for dogs and cats in need. We encourage you to do adopt your next pet from them or a shelter, rather than buying from a breeder, and give an animal in need a chance. Rescuing truly does save lives.

Update: We're thrilled to announce that Rusco has found his forever home! His new family adopted our puppy S**a several months ago, and she needed a friend. Rusco will have everything he needs to thrive and a loving family that will give him the life he deserves. Yay Rusco!

Some dogs just really deserve a break, and Rusco is that dog. He's been waiting a long time for his forever home. Rusco used to be really scared of a lot of things, but the love and patience from his foster family has shown him that people are pretty okay! He's blossoming and learning that being a pet is the life to live! He loves cuddling, taking walks and playing with other friendly dogs his size. He knows some commands, he is completely house trained, and he even gets along with kitties. He's up to date on his vaccinations and is neutered, microchipped and healthy. He is just such a sweet boy that deserves the love he was deprived of in his earlier years. Rusco needs a home with another dog that he can play with and who will continue to teach him to do "dog". He is most confident around other dogs. Because Rusco is an active boy, he needs a home with a yard with a 6 ft fence to get some sunshine and playtime between walks. Small kids are unpredictable and scary for Rusco, so a home with no children or older children is needed. He has never shown even a hint of aggression to anyone. He will continue to build confidence with his new family and will thrive in a home where those needs can be met. Rusco's adoption fee is $200. Available for adoption. Coco is a Border Collie/German Shorthaired Pointer mix female. She needs a home with a fenced yard and an active family. In return, she will bring you lots of love and laughter.

My name is Coco, I am 1 year old. I love to go to the dog park, go for walks and play fetch 💕. I am good with kids and other dogs. I can sit and stay. I have lots of energy and some separation anxiety. As most dogs I bark. I am spayed and just had my 1 year checkup and received all my vaccinations (rabies, DAP, leptospirosis and bordatella) and I have my heart worm pills.
I love my family and my family loves me but my Dad is having bad allergies with me in the house.

Coco has some separation anxiety. She does not like being put in a crate, this makes her anxiety worse. We just put up a gate across the steps in our family room and she does fine. She is house trained and has access to a doggy door that she uses all the time. Coco would love an active family or someone who likes to hike or run. We do have a medium size backyard and she loves to run and play with her toys. We also have a cat that she wants to play with, but the cat can only put up with her for so long.

If you're interested in Coco, please fill out an application at https://form.jotform.com/72727470684162. Coco's rehoming fee is $200.

Please help Rusco find his forever home. Rusco is a 1 year old Shepherd mix, weighing approximately 40 lbs and the beautiful heart on his precious face is the perfect indicator of his sweet personality and all the love he has to give. Rusco loves belly rubs, long walks and room to run and play. He had a rough start in life so he needs a loving, patient family that can commit to his happiness. Rusco was dumped as a young puppy, with two of his siblings, in an oilfield in Oklahoma and when rescuers found them, they were all so scared and so hungry. Rusco is now a happy, healthy boy but, because he was not treated well by humans early in life, Rusco has a few special needs that must be met so he can learn to trust his new family and thrive. Rusco loves the outdoors so he needs a home with a secure yard where he can explore and play, off-leash, throughout the day. Rusco is also very nervous around children and, while he has never shown an ounce of aggression, he must have a quiet home with few comings and goings and no children under the age16 years old. Finally, Rusco must have another confident dog in the home as a playmate and to help him with his own confidence. Rusco is fully vaccinated, neutered, does well with cats, housebroken, does great at doggy daycare and, while he is crate trained, he does great outside the crate and prefers to be a part of the family, day and night. If you can give Rusco the life he is dreaming of, please complete an application at: https://form.jotform.com/72727470684162.

As this year comes to a close, I want to reflect on all the wonderful things this year has brought, despite its challenges. We are so proud to have matched so many deserving dogs and puppies to their loving new families. Our dogs have come from horrendous conditions; they have been abandoned and neglected by their humans, their suffering ignored. With the help of our rescue partners in Oklahoma who find them and give these dogs the immediate help they need, and our wonderful foster families who care for them once they arrive in Colorado, we are able to give them the medical care and emotional support they need to go on to become loved and valued members of their families.

Some of the dogs we’ve been able to help include Molly and her 3 puppies, Mitch, Mongo, and Minx. The puppies were only 3 days old when they were rescued, living outside among the junk in the yard in the dirt. Ghost and Marley were left starving, with Ghost being pregnant when they were rescued. Ghost began giving birth on her ride home to her foster family. Sandy and Sally, both pregnant girls, were fending for themselves and were about to give birth in an open field had they not been rescued, within days of giving birth. Alice and her puppies were abandoned in their home when their humans moved away. They were lucky to have been found. Izzy and her puppies were abandoned and would have been easy prey for coyotes. So many mommas and babies that faced a life of starvation, disease, and predation if it hadn’t been for caring people that said yes to helping them. Hershey was abandoned at a construction site at only 6 weeks old. Our Boxer puppies were being given away at a Walmart to whoever would take them. So many young puppies that could have fallen into the wrong hands.

We’ve had some dogs with big medical problems this year that we’ve helped. We’re committed to doing the right thing for them. Pooky was essentially crippled with a form of arthritis. But with specialized diagnostics and a treatment plan, he’s gone on to regain his mobility. Gidget was born with a defect that left her hind legs very weak. We have provided her with specialized vet care. Likewise, Nugget was born with a defect that will result in surgery. We are assisting his adopter with the expenses related to that surgery. We've provided heartworm treatment to 5 different dogs.
Additionally, we have donated $2,000 toward spays and neuters for dogs in Oklahoma, to help with overpopulation there. There are so many stories we could tell, of the life-changing transformations we see with the dogs in our care.

We would like to say a special thanks for those folks that have been pivotal to our success this year: David Beattie, pilot for Pilots N Paws; Debbie Davis-Sanders, who does the heart-wrenching hard work on the Oklahoma side of things; Amber Hunsucker, Oklahoma puppy whelper extraordinaire; our wonderful veterinarians at Summer Valley in Aurora, and Caring Hands and Guardian Angels in Thornton; our dedicated foster families, particularly long-term fosters Laura and Scott Birdsill, Mick and Michelle Piontek, Amy Smith, Lisa Murray, Amanda Taft, Cristina Zehr, Jennifer Jensen, Kim Hazlett, Annairis Johnson, and Tasha Mendez.

I would like to take this opportunity to recognize the amazing Board of True-Blue Pet Rescue, for their tireless work and dedication to the dogs in our care. They will drop everything to do what is needed, without ever a complaint or hesitation, and they always have the best interests of the dogs in mind in decisions and actions taken. I’m incredibly proud of the work we do, and recognize that we couldn’t be as successful as we are without Rhonda Pylican, Adoption Coordinator and Treasurer, Joanna Van Gieson, Adoption Coordinator and Secretary, and Katelynn Fontenot, Behavior and Special Needs Consultant. We are incredibly blessed to have the wonderful people supporting us that we do, without whom none of this could happen. There are too many people to name here that we want to thank, but you know who you are. You have donated when you can, you have liked and shared our posts, you have stepped up when the call came out for a foster and you have adopted rather than supporting puppy mills.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

We wish you all Happy Holidays and a new year full of love, happiness, and pawprints.

Einstein found himself here at True Blue when the Nursing home he lived in closed. We are so happy he found his fairy tail ending🤍

Here are some words from his momma! 🐾💞

“Einstein is doing great - Photo was taken at his vet appointment yesterday. Having some acupuncture for a bit of arthritis! We are so far surviving pandemic isolation but Einstein hates social distancing. He is such a happy guy and loves everyone.”

Reposting with permission from one of our excellent fosters, Laura Birdsill. Fostering a dog in need is such a rewarding experience. This is Laura's story...

One year ago today I decided to take in our first official foster dog. I say official because our princess Julia was technically a foster we failed at because we adopted her after one day back in 2017.
I took in Bingo (who became Tango), an abused dog who needed some love, first. Next was, Sarge ( who became Shiloh) a big fluffy white prince who I nursed back to health. Our third foster was Abby, who was recovering from being a mama after living a sketchy life of foraging for food and necessities. Fourth was Little John (who became Russell), a spitfire little king who came from a hoarding situation and was fiercely protective of me. He went on to find his very own grandma. Fifth was Roxy, a sweet girl who had been found under a house with a litter of puppies she was separated from before being moved around a few times before becoming a True Blue rescue dog. Sixth was our first little puppy. I named her Tia and her adopters kept her name. Seventh was Annie (who became Kira), the first one my husband almost broke his rule of a foster dog not becoming our third permanent dog. Eighth was Riley (who became Finley) a wire haired ' ball of energy' who loved to chew whatever he could and had fun camping with us. We are currently fostering Rusco, such a beautiful boy, who just needs time to find his confidence and learn that there will be people he can trust but is a big goofball.
Some stayed only a few days, some stayed a few weeks. They all found a place in my heart and my heart tears when they leave. Thank you True-Blue Pet Rescue for allowing me to help you while these precious souls find their furever homes and families.

Are you interested in fostering for True-Blue? We are always looking for loving homes for our dogs to transition to their wonderful new lives. Please fill out an application and a coordinator will be in touch! https://form.jotform.com/72664808584166
