Behind the Scenes: From Application to Adoption! 🐾

Think filling out an adoption application and hitting “submit” is the hard part? That’s just the beginning and it comes with the down payment!

Once your application comes in, it’s assigned to one of our five volunteer Adoption Coordinators. Your coordinator will be your main point of contact throughout the process and will:

📞 Talk with you about your family, lifestyle, and what you’re looking for in a basset
💉 Check with your veterinarian to make sure current pets are up-to-date on vaccines and heartworm prevention
📞 Contact your references to learn more about your experience as a dog parent
🏡 Schedule an in-person home visit

That home visit is one of the things that truly sets Debora’s bassets apart. We send a volunteer to your home to meet everyone in the household and make sure your home and property are safe and basset-friendly—with no hidden hazards for those curious noses and determined little legs!

Our goal isn't to find reasons to say “no.” It's to make sure we're creating the right match for both the basset and the family and setting everyone up for a successful adoption

Moby’s first adoption didn’t quite stick—his high-energy, still-very-puppy personality needed more room to run than an apartment could offer.

Now this 2-year-old basset mix has landed his perfect forever home with Jill, Paul, and their three kids. Best of all, he has a ready-made brother: Axel the bassador, who was clearly waiting for a buddy to share all that zoomie energy with.
