Goat kidding hospital bag👜
Before I had my first child I would obsessively watch YouTube videos on what people packed for the hospital… these last few weeks I’ve been doing the same thing but about goat birth😂 here is the stuff that I have prepared!⬇️
Colostrum replacer NOT supplement: I didn’t realize there was a difference until my vet pointed it out. Colostrum replacers are complete products designed to replace maternal colostrum when none is available, providing full passive immunity and nutrients. Supplements are boosters intended to improve poor-quality maternal colostrum.
A bottle and ni***es just in case: I want to make sure I have everything on hand, if for whatever reason, they are not able to drink right away from their mom.
Iodine spray for their umbical cords: I was going to do umbilical clamps, but instead, I will be doing iodine spray to avoid any chewing on or messing with the clamp.
Snot sucker, gloves, clean scissors: I’m hoping to not have to use any of these, but I want to have them on hand just in case!
Electrolytes/ warm water and molasses: I was originally going to put electrolytes in their water after birth but now I will be doing warm water with a little bit of molasses to give Eleanor a little boost.
A sling and scale: This is so I could take the babies weight right after birth for their records and also to know how much BoSe to administer.
BoSe prescription from the vet: BoSe (selenium and Vitamin E) is an injectable prescription supplement used to prevent or treat White Muscle Disease in newborn goats, particularly in deficient areas
A primo heat lamp: Since we just had snow yesterday, I wanna make sure that these babies can stay dry and warm! These heat lamps are supposed to be safer with less risk of fire, but I will still keep a very close eye on it!
Clean towels: This is just to dry the babies off and get them warm and ready to nurse!
Lots of prayers: I am so excited and a little nervous because this is our very first time and it is her first time. I don’t want to let her down and I just want happy healthy babies and a happy healthy mama once they are here!
Am I missing anything?? Let me know below!
