Everyone sees the fluffy faces, the tiny paws, and those perfect little curlsโฆ but what doesnโt get talked about enough is ALL the work that goes into raising and training new puppies.
For us, it becomes a full-time job (with overtime ๐
) from the moment Mom goes into laborโand for the next 8 weeks.
Itโs not uncommon for a micro Goldendoodle to have 6โ10 puppies in one litter. Those first few days? Youโre up every 1.5โ2 hours helping a young mom nurse and adjust to her brand-new role. Sleep becomesโฆ optional...but sometimes NOT.๐ค
Then a couple weeks inโฆ the puppies discover their superpower: pottying constantly.
Now itโs a cleaning job every 15 minutes. No exaggeration.
And just when you think youโve got it under controlโฆ they start eating puppy food.
Which means:
๐ฅฃ Mixing food 4 times a day
๐งบ Multiple loads of laundry daily
๐งผ Constant cleaning and sanitizing
Because one thing about meโฆ
โ I CANNOT stand for their area to be messy.
Using disposable puppy pads would take a huge pack every single day which is not cost effective and not environmentally friendly. So unlike some breeders, we choose reusable linens. It saves money, but definitely adds time (and laundry ๐
).
We work hard to keep their space clean, healthy, and safe at all times.
๐ณAt around 4 weeks, we start outdoor potty training. That means getting every single puppy outside on a scheduleโevery 2 hours, every day, for the next 4 weeks. Rain, shine, tired, busyโฆ it doesnโt matter.
And let me tell you, these puppies will walk right over to a potty pad, look you dead in the eyesโฆ and go right beside it like theyโre proving a point. ๐
But through consistency, patience, and a LOT of repetition, they learn.
And thatโs why itโs so rewarding when families tell me how easy their puppy was to potty train once they got home. That didnโt happen by accident.๐คซ
๐Side note: We strongly believe in training dogs to potty outdoors. Puppy pads can create confusion since theyโre essentially learning itโs okay to go inside. While scented pads *can* help short-term, WE donโt recommend them as a long-term solution.
Raising well-trained, happy puppies doesnโt happen by accidentโฆ
It takes a whole lot of love
โฆand a whole lot of work! ๐ฅฐ๐ถ
