Adopt a Golden Atlanta

Adopt a Golden Atlanta AGA, a 501(c)3 non-profit rescue dedicated to Golden Retrievers, fully foster based & 100% run by volunteers. Based out of Atlanta

We do not reject any golden, no matter their medical or behavioral needs and work tirelessly to find their "furever family". We find warm, loving forever homes for Golden Retrievers to prevent them from being strays or adding to shelter overpopulation. Regardless of medical needs or age, dogs receive vet care, training if required and safe passage to a forever home.

ADOPTED! AGA was happy to welcome the Kentucky Derby litter when a breeder reached out for help finding loving homes for the puppies. Honcho Pup, now Cooper, has joined his forever family and will enjoy walks, playing in the fenced yard and the companionship of his parents being home most of the day. His new mom and dad are dog savvy and love training dogs. Welcome home, Cooper!

ADOPTED! With two young children, Sadie’s original family realized they did not have the time required to give Sadie the attention she deserves. They turned to AGA to find a new home for this sweet eight-year-old girl. All Sadie wanted was a family to love. Her foster mom said she would loyally follow her around the house, and she was a perfect house guest.

Sadie’s new mom and dad had recently experienced a heartbreaking loss of one of their dogs and wanted to find a new companion for their three-year-old Bordeaux Mastif. A meeting was held and not only did Sadie get along perfectly with the very large Mastif and the resident cat, but her new mom and dad fell in love with Sadie’s sweet and gentle personality.

It had taken a little while to find the right home for Sadie, but it was worth the wait. Now Sadie lives with a retired mom and dad who have plenty of time to give her all the love and attention she deserves, and her mom tells us that Sadie loves her “little” brother and kitty cat sister. They are too cute together. We couldn’t be happier for Sadie and her new family. Live your best life, Sadie!

ADOPTED! Ziggy, a 6-year-old golden who certainly doesn’t act — or look — his age, was surrendered to an animal shelter after his owner was no longer able to care for him. AGA to the rescue!

Ziggy is a pretty easy going fellow. There isn’t much this guy doesn’t love.
Toys? Yes, please. People? Absolutely. Other dogs? Bonus. Cats? Doable. Car rides, walks, playtime? Wait… did someone say playtime? All in! Snuggles? Much needed and gladly accepted.

When his new owner saw him for the first time, she knew he was the missing piece to complete her family. Now Ziggy gets all the things he loves most: toys, people, snuggles, a few littles to play with when the grandkids visit, and not one but two new siblings, Georgie and Emma.

Boy, did Ziggy hit the jackpot with this forever home. Welcome to your forever home!

🇺🇸 Honoring Our Heroes, Two-and Four-Legged 🇺🇸

This Memorial Day, we honor the brave men and women who give their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice is the reason we enjoy the freedoms we have today, and their legacy lives on in every heart they touched.

We also recognize the incredible service dogs who have stood by our heroes on the battlefield, in recovery, and back home. These loyal companions offer protection, comfort, and healing, often saving lives in ways words can’t express.

Today, we remember. We honor. And we give thanks. 🐾❤️💙

ADOPTED! Back in January AGA was tagged in post about a stray dog that had been seen for over a year in Lithonia, GA. It was clear that something was wrong, it appeared the dog had an embedded collar on her neck. A good samaritan decided to help this dog and got support from others. A trap was set and on the first night the dog entered the trap and was secured.

The next day an AGA volunteer met the ladies who trapped her. This young dog was named Rowan by AGA, and now part of the family. We were committed to helping her.

Rowan was taken directly to an emergency vet where the staff was amazing and they admitted her immediately. Her *puppy* collar was indeed embedded and infected. The collar was removed under sedation and cleaned, and she was placed on IV antibiotics and fluids. She went back to the hospital every other day to see the Dr and get her bandages changed. One week later, Rowan’s neck was surgically closed, and she was spayed and - she healed beautifully!

Once recovered, Rowan spent the next couple months learning about living indoors, being part of a pack and being a puppy. Afterall, she is just 1.5 years old and had lived on her own most of that time. She is smart, affectionate, playful and loves being part of the family. We knew she deserves all the love and security her forever family will give her.

Then, that family came. They are previous adopters, dog savvy and have huge hearts for rescue. Rowan, now Dolly, has a mom who works from home, two canine siblings Ben and Ruby, a human who is at college and a dad she adores. Dolly also has an aunt and a canine cousin who visit daily. Dolly has an endless supply of toys, cozy beds, bones, love and never has to worry about being hungry or lonely again. Thank you to everyone who played a role in saving this sweet girl. You are so loved, Dolly!

ADOPTED! Five-month-old Cleo made his way to AGA from Ohio as he was the last pup in his litter and was not adopted due to having a heart murmur. AGA welcomed him in and took him to the cardiologist, at this time no medication is needed, and he doesn’t have any restrictions.

Cleo, now Milo is a sweet handsome boy who was just adopted by his forever family. Milo’s mom works from home, his dad is home in the afternoons, he has fenced yard to have zoomies in, and he has three canine siblings along with two human siblings. Milo is already so loved by his new family. Welcome home!

ADOPTED! Phoenix Doodle was sitting in a rural shelter, unclaimed, when AGA was contacted to rescue him, and to his rescue we went! Phoenix was waiting out his hold period from the shelter with us when he caught the attention of his new parents. They had been searching for a doodle and Phoenix looked like a good fit for them.

Once they met him, his bouncy doodle spirit won them over! After another meeting, they were positive he was the boy for them. Phoenix, now known as Gunner showed his knowledge of commands, his excellent house manners and overall love for all people. He gets to go to work with mom when she has to go into the office and everyone there absolutely loves his goofiness as well as his calm demeanor and his ability to settle quickly and not be too big of a distraction in the office.

Gunner's dad had an instant connection with him & has a ball throwing buddy to run off his energy with. Gunner has a fenced yard for his doodle zoomies (IYKYK) as well as chase said ball. He gets to accompany mom and dad when they visit dog friendly restaurants and is very well behaved. He also has some doodle cousins in the extended family that he will get to play with once recovered from his recent neutering. Gunner will have a very happy, tail wagging life with his new family!

ADOPTED! Buddy was found by a good samaritan with two other goldens abandoned in some woods. They took them to a local shelter, who in turn contacted AGA and we gladly went to their rescue. All three were shut down, scared of the loud, crowded shelter, but very trusting of all the wonderful people who worked there. With a lot of help, their heads came up a little and their tails showed the slightest sign of a wag!

Once in the cars, with fresh air blowing through their fur and no loud barking, they began to show that golden smile! Buddy unfortunately tested positive for heartworms and a long road of treatment and recovery was in his future.

About this time, his forever family saw him and his two companions' story on our website and knew they could provide a caring, loving home for one of them. After a few meetings with Buddy, they were sure he would fit into their lives. They saw him through his heartworm treatments and kept him calm during his recovery period. Buddy, now goes by Benny and has two doggie siblings, more agreeable cats and a human brother and sister to love on him.

Benny has a bonus, he now has a lake house! He recently made his first trip to the lake and had a blast! He got to visit local dog friendly restaurants where he (as mom said, was the goodest boy) and everyone commented on how handsome he is. Benny definitely has found that golden smile and it will be with him for a very long time! Welcome home Benny!
