AGA, a 501(c)3 non-profit rescue dedicated to Golden Retrievers, fully foster based & 100% run by volunteers. Based out of Atlanta

We do not reject any golden, no matter their medical or behavioral needs and work tirelessly to find their "furever family". We find warm, loving forever homes for Golden Retrievers to prevent them from being strays or adding to shelter overpopulation. Regardless of medical needs or age, dogs receive vet care, training if required and safe passage to a forever home.

ADOPTED!! One year old, Scout, was found with Blazer Pup and Steele Pup in South Georgia when they were dumped on someones property. These pups were searching for food, shelter, and truly just fighting to survive. The three dogs were brought into the AGA family and were vetted and went into loving foster homes.

Unfortunately, Scout was heartworm positive. And during his x-rays to stage his heartworms, it also showed he had been shot with BB pellets in the past. Scout may not look golden, but he truly does have a golden heart and never let any of this stop him from being the sweetest boy in the world.

While he was waiting for his perfect match, Scout spent several weeks in loving and patient foster homes. Scout, now named Wallace, has completed his heartworm treatment and is officially HOME!!!

Wallace’s dad works from home and loves him dearly. He also has two human brothers to snuggle and play with. Wallace also has a special grandma who loves him so much. This sweet boy is so gentle and loving and deserving of all the love he is now getting.

We have received unconfirmed sightings from multiple areas, but 𝘄𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 to know where she is and where she may be traveling.

𝗦𝗛𝗘 𝗠𝗔𝗬 𝗕𝗘 𝗡𝗢𝗖𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗡𝗔𝗟. She may be moving primarily during the late-night and early-morning hours when things are quiet. Please 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝗔𝗡𝗬 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗟𝗟 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗮 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲 you have, including doorbell, security, driveway, and outdoor cameras. She could have passed through when no one was watching, and 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 you didn't realize was important.

⚠️ 𝗣𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗘 𝗗𝗢 𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗦𝗘, 𝗔𝗣𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗔𝗖𝗛, 𝗢𝗥 𝗠𝗔𝗞𝗘 𝗦𝗨𝗗𝗗𝗘𝗡 𝗠𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗦 𝗧𝗢𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗗 𝗛𝗘𝗥. She will not hurt you, but she is extremely fearful of people and will BOLT if she feels threatened or scared. NO chasing, NO approaching, NO eye contact, NO calling, NO whistling, etc. 𝗜𝗙 𝗦𝗘𝗘𝗡 - 𝗖𝗔𝗟𝗟 𝗢𝗥 𝗧𝗘𝗫𝗧 𝟰𝟳𝟬.𝟲𝟲𝟲.𝟮𝟭𝟭𝟬 𝗔𝗦𝗔𝗣 - 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗳 𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲, 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗽𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼.

𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗶𝘀 𝗱𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻. We have set up feeding stations, placed 150+ signs, shared countless social media posts and alerts, and continue working tirelessly to bring her back to us. 𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀. 𝗪𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗲𝘆𝗲𝘀. 𝗪𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘀.

ADOPTED! Poptart Doodle was originally found as a stray, covered in muck and painful, matted fur. After spending a couple of weeks at the shelter — where the staff did their best to shave him and provide some comfort — this sweet boy joined the AGA family.

His foster family described him as a total cuddle bug who just needed some training and activity to burn off his energy. At four years old, he still had a bit of learning to do.

His new family was looking for a companion to join them, and as soon as they met him - they knew he was the one. Both parents grew up with dogs; his new mom works from home, and his new dad takes him for long walks every night. They also enjoy three-day weekends, which allow them to give him plenty of attention.

Now renamed Sully, he is sleeping on the couch and attending further training to perfect his manners. His new family shares that he is incredibly smart and a very good dog. Thank you to everyone who helped this sweet boy along the way to his forever home.

ADOPTED! Sweet Bailey found herself in a crowded, loud local shelter when her family found themselves unable to care for her any longer. When our volunteers went to the shelter to meet her, they found a terrified pup, curled up in a tight ball trying to make herself invisible to the world.

It took a lot of coaxing and help from the animal control staff to get her out of her pen and moved to a "quiet" area. Once there, her body began to relax, and she even managed a slight wag of the tail and gave one of the volunteers a shy kiss.

She gained her freedom ride the next day and went into one of our foster homes where she was provided quiet, gentle, and patient attention. She began to come out of her shell and showed just how sweet she truly was. She began to trust people, but still had a ways to go. Loud, crowded places still overwhelmed her, and it was clear she needed a calm place to call home.

Her new parents saw her on the website and felt something tug at them. They have a cat and needed to make sure she'd be ok with a cat, so meetings were held and the potential was there. It took some time for Bailey to fully come out of her shell, but now she's just where she needs to be!

A forever home with a dad who works from home and a mom who can take her to work occasionally. She gets lots of love and attention, playtime, and adventures to local dog-friendly establishments. Bailey is thriving in her new home and is a great example of what rescue and a loving home can do for an animal! Live your best, tail-wagging life, Bailey!

ADOPTED! Bean had a difficult start in life. For much of her early years, she lived outdoors in a runner and later found herself being rehomed through Facebook Marketplace.

Unfortunately, her new situation wasn't what she deserved, as she spent long periods confined to a crate. Wanting a better future for her, her owner made the loving decision to reach out to AGA so Bean could have the chance to find the life she had always deserved.

Despite the challenges she faced, Bean never lost her sweet spirit. She remained a loving, affectionate girl who greeted everyone she met with a wagging tail and a hopeful heart.

Bean's new mom was already familiar with the joy of adoption as a previous AGA adopter. She was looking for a companion for her 9-year-old Golden Retriever, Hannah. After a successful introduction between the two dogs, it was clear that Bean had found her match. As a retiree with plenty of time and love to give, her new mom knew she could provide the caring home Bean had been waiting for.

Now affectionately known as Beanie, she has embraced her new life with enthusiasm. She has charmed the entire family, including children and grandchildren, and loves being at the center of every gathering. According to her mom, Beanie adores toys, especially her beloved stuffies, has never met a meal she didn't enjoy, and happily curls up next to her every night.

Beanie and Hannah have become wonderful companions. Together they spend their days exploring the fenced backyard, playing, and enjoying the simple pleasures of being dogs.

After years of uncertainty, Beanie is finally experiencing what every dog deserves: a loving family, a warm bed, plenty of toys, and a best friend by her side. Her journey is a beautiful reminder that it's never too late for a second chance, and Beanie's future is filled with all the love, happiness, and adventures she has always deserved.

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗢𝗪𝗘𝗥 𝗢𝗙 𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗖𝗨𝗘 – 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲: 𝗔 𝗷𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗲, 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲, & 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲. 💛 On National Dog Day, we're celebrating the dogs who remind us why every life is worth fighting for. 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗸— 𝗮 𝗱𝗼𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝘂𝘀 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗮 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗲.

⚠️ 𝘞𝘈𝘙𝘕𝘐𝘕𝘎: 𝘚𝘖𝘔𝘌 𝘐𝘔𝘈𝘎𝘌𝘚 𝘞𝘐𝘓𝘓 𝘉𝘌 𝘜𝘗𝘚𝘌𝘛𝘛𝘐𝘕𝘎 𝘛𝘖 𝘝𝘐𝘌𝘞 - but that is when rescue is needed the most. ⚠️ Maverick was described to us as a healthy dog who just needed a new home. 𝗟𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝘄𝗲 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝘆 𝘄𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘂𝘀. In March, when our volunteers arrived to pick Maverick up, they expected to meet a young dog simply in need of a new home. 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗱, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗮 𝗱𝗼𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵.

He should have weighed 60–65 lbs. 𝗛𝗲 𝘄𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝗝𝗨𝗦𝗧 𝟮𝟮 𝗣𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗗𝗦 𝗔𝗧 𝗧𝗛𝗥𝗘𝗘 𝗬𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗦 𝗢𝗟𝗗. Profoundly emaciated, severely anemic, and too weak to stand, Maverick was 𝗿𝘂𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲, where the severity of his condition became heartbreakingly clear. He even had to have surgery, as in a desperate attempt to find something to consume, he ate a foreign object.

What followed was months of medical care and dedicated foster families. His body had been through so much that even feeding him had to be done slowly and carefully under veterinary guidance. His foster families measured every meal, managed medications and ongoing GI issues, monitored his recovery, and stood beside him through setbacks and small victories alike. 𝙇𝙞𝙩𝙩𝙡𝙚 𝙗𝙮 𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙩𝙡𝙚, 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝟮𝟮-𝙥𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙 𝙙𝙤𝙜 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙𝙣'𝙩 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙗𝙚𝙜𝙖𝙣 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙙𝙤𝙜 𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙖𝙡𝙬𝙖𝙮𝙨 𝙢𝙚𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙚.

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗢𝗪𝗘𝗥 𝗢𝗙 𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗖𝗨𝗘. On a day dedicated to celebrating our dogs, Maverick's story is a reminder that there are still dogs waiting for someone to give them the chance they deserve.

Today, five months later, Maverick is patiently awaiting his true forever family that will shower him with unconditional love from here on out. 🏡💛

ADOPTED! Joni Doodle found her way to AGA when her family made the difficult decision to allow us to find a new home for her. She lived in a very active, loving home with two young boys but they realized they just couldn't give her the love and attention she deserved.

When the her new family saw Joni and read her story on our website, they immediately thought she would be a great fit for their family. They have two young kids and another dog, so it seemed like it was meant to be.

They all met; the dogs gave each other lots of sniffs and wags and the kids were really excited. Everyone was all in and so excited to welcome sweet Joni to the family. She's living her best life with two kids to play with and her fur-sister Bailey to hang with all day long. Joni loves going on walks with the family and after a long day of playing, wants nothing more than snuggling in bed at night. She loves her "stuffies" and has one with her at all times.

ADOPTED! Ranger, a very young 11 year old sweet golden boy, came to AGA when his family could no longer provide the attention he needed. He went to one of our loving fosters who shared her home & love with him and nurtured him through his transition.

Ranger was a hit with everyone he met, young, old, small, or large including every dog. In short, Ranger is the perfect golden! His new family saw his profile on our website, and having a soft spot for senior dogs, knew they could provide him a loving home and spoil him to no end.

They had an initial meeting to see if their current dog, Finn and Ranger could be friends, and of course they were! The next test was for Ranger to meet their nieces who absolutely love dogs. Ranger was in heaven with the girls! He adored their hugs and attention, and they, in turn, are in love with him.

Ranger now has a home with a nice, fenced yard where he can chase balls and play with his new brother. And a place to romp with the girls when they come to visit. Mom & Dad have flexible work schedules, so Ranger and Finn are never alone for too long, and they enjoy napping during those times alone, sometimes known as recharging the batteries!

ADOPTED! Whiskey found his way to AGA after his previous owner fell on hard times and was unable to keep him. With his high-energy and exuberant personality, AGA set to work to find this boy a great home, preferably with a built-in buddy. When his new family saw him on our website, they knew they could offer him a great life.

The meetings went great! He met their dog Willow, who gave a big thumbs up, and we knew we had a great home for him.

Whiskey is now River, and he has settled in perfectly. During the day, he and Willow enjoy wearing each other out in the yard, and in the evenings, everyone snuggles on the couch together. Congratulations River! 💛
