Attached is a story about a not-so-honest pet sitter who got arrested in the metro Atlanta county I lived in before I moved to the North Georgia mountains in 2018. Kudos to the Forsyth County Sheriff's Department for posting the story and including tips pet parents should follow when hiring a pet-care provider. πΎπππ

It's Felony Friday Forsyth! Here is a story about a pet sitter with sticky fingers.
In February, our victim hired Cindy Love to stay at her home overnight and care for her pets.
In early March, the victim noticed that clothing was missing from her closet as well as several River Bend Ranch steaks missing from her refrigerator. The victim contacted FCSO to report the items missing.
Unbeknownst to the victim, our detectives are very familiar with Ms. Love! You see, she was arrested for the same thing back in 2024, when she had several investigations in multiple jurisdiction for theft. In 2024, she stole jewelry from a victim in June and jewelry, handbags, and clothing from another victim in August. She would take the items and sell them to consignment shops. Those cases are still going through the court system.
In this year's case, detectives gained enough evidence to secure a search warrant for her home. During the search 18 stolen items were recovered. The items were returned to the victim and Cindy Love was again arrested and charged with 2 counts of Theft by Taking.

πΎVerify Credentials: Ensure the sitter is insured and bonded to protect your home and pets.
πΎBackground Checks: Use platforms that offer ID-verified, background-checked sitters, or ask independent sitters for documentation.
πΎMeet-and-Greet: Always have an in-person meeting to observe how the sitter interacts with your pet(s).
πΎReference Checks: Ask for recent client references and contact them.
πΎTrust your Gut: If a potential sitter seems unprofessional or uncomfortable during the interview, do not hire them.
