We get asked a lot about our day training sessions. These sessions are about 45 min and can be done at home, or can include us taking your pup out and about. Baby Misha is working on socialization, body awareness and name recognition at this playground. And, of course, he aced it! Day training sessions can be done with your dog whether you’re home or not. It’s a great way to work on behaviors that need a lot of repetition, like leash walking skills, puppy socialization or obedience cues.

The bigger the puppy, the more time they need to complete a cue when prompted. It’s important to not repeat cues. Give your pup time to process what you’ve asked and start working on it. Not only will asking multiple times confuse or frustrate your pup, but it also teaches them not to listen the first time 😉 Jackson is a big ‘ol Great Dane puppy that is not only learning all these new behaviors, but also learning to move his big body around as well. That’s a lot of work! 🐕🐾

Puppies are *so* busy. Sometimes it can feel like they need 7 walks a day! But did you know that puppies really need lots of enrichment and engagement to work their brains to tire them out? Bear came to have a play date and got to splash around in the splash pad, dig in the water, try and catch the floating fish and worked on recall away from everything. Just a few minutes of this and he was exhausted!! Often times, enrichment exercises like this can wear out a puppy faster than a walk! Toss some treats in the yard for the puppy to find, fill a kiddie pool and toss treats or foods or toys that float in and let your puppy fish them out, play with bubbles, hide treats in a paper towel roll and fold over the ends and let your puppy problem solve it. There’s so many ways we can create simple, but effective, games to wear out puppies in a healthy way!

When baby puppies first come home, they are a little subdued. They have experienced so many firsts in a short period of time and they will take some time to settle in and get comfortable. After a few weeks, their true personality will really start to show! And this is usually when the chaos begins 🫣 The best thing you can do is start training ASAP, while your puppy is still very demure, very cutesy! ✨💕

🐾 Happy National Dog Day!! 🐾 If there ever was a perfect holiday, this is it! We hope you get a chance to spoil your pup today and spend some quality time with them. True confessions: it’s pretty much national dog day at our house all the time, but any excuse to spoil them is worthwhile 😉

Lots of puppies joined their new families over the holidays. There’s so many things we want them to learn, and we know they’re supposed to get out and meet other dogs, but when?? Now! Don’t wait. Avoid dog parks, places with high dog traffic (like pet stores), and areas where dogs frequently do their business (dog areas at buildings and high rises). But you can absolutely have a play date with that nice dog on your street. Quality over quantity. You don’t need a huge puppy social or to go to a daycare, arrange a few, small play dates with nice dogs that you know.

We are so thankful for all our wonderful clients and all their perfect pups! We hope your holiday season is full of love and cheer. Owner, Anna Bettina, loves this season because it means she can put her Cane Corsos in matching sweaters and pajamas. May we all find our own joy in the season! 😂🥰🐾

When teaching your dog a new skill, think about how hard it is for you to learn a new skill! Learning things takes time, and will always happen a lot faster if you can learn in small steps with lots of positive feedback! When you have multiple dogs, this also includes teaching them each the skill individually, before asking them to all do it together. Want a nice, polite (and quiet) greeting at the door with guests? Help each dog master it on their own first! Peggy, Teddy & Cindy get so excited when people come by there’s lots of vocalizing, jumping, running & even some finger nibbling. Just by splitting them up, and working separately at first, we were able to get them all sitting quietly for a new guest within one session! Each dog is an individual, and they all learn at their own pace, so this will help set everyone up for success. If you feel like your dog is struggling, try breaking it into smaller steps for them, and make sure you’re paying well! 🍪🐶🍪
