Two breeds. Two very different natural drives.

And neither is wrong🙂

When you’re choosing a dog to add to your family, it’s so important to know what the breed was originally bred to do, and to ensure the breed traits that might come along with that are compatible with your family and your lifestyle.

All dogs are unique individuals and general breed traits won’t always present, but having realistic expectations of what is/isn’t typical of your dog’s breed or breed mix can help you better understand your dog and better meet their needs. And that makes your life easier, and theirs too!

This is one of my favorite easy dog enrichment exercises to teach families with young kiddos. It’s fun and easy for dogs and kids to figure out, and it might just buy you a few a quiet minutes after school 😜

📌Save this for your next indoor afternoon!

Last week we had our third annual Peach Week, where our amazing team came together to learn, spend quality time together, and celebrate everyone’s incredible achievements this year!

We were also joined by the incredible Michael Shikashio as our keynote speaker, who shared so much of his knowledge with us.

It’s crazy to believe we are entering into our 12th year of business and we couldn’t be more grateful for every person in each of these pictures who helped us get here!

It’s hard to have a bad day at work when this is who we get to work with!

Almost everyone on our team has one thing in common: we got our start as trainers because each of us had a reactive dog at some point in our lives that we didn’t know how to help.

We know there’s an overwhelming amount of information out there about leash reactivity and how to address it. We know how hard it is to know where to start, and we know firsthand the feeling of dread when it’s time to pick up that leash for a walk with your reactive dog.

And those journeys led us all here, to our clients. What you see in this video is the result of weeks of hard work, and maintaining these new skills will require ongoing practice and maintenance. It’s totally normal to have setbacks with your reactive dog; what we’re looking for is that the trajectory is going in the right direction.

With all that said...there’s nothing we love more than showing off successes like this 🙂

There’s just no replacement for a dog trainer who loves your dog and loves what they do 🙂

Don’t be afraid to let your dog sniff on walks. This is a species-specific behavior that’s really, really good for them.

In fact, we often use sniffing to help reactive dogs calm down and reset if they’ve gotten overstimulated.

You can even put sniffing on cue so that your dog knows the difference between more consistent walking time vs. when it’s a good time for them to stop and sniff.
