This morning Fender slipped his collar on our walk and celebrated by running victory laps around me in a neighbor's yard, grinning the entire time. I tried walking away. Five houses down, I turned around. He was standing exactly where I left him, calmly watching me go. Round 2 of the Fender Roundup involved a handful of treats, one attempted dart, and a firm "You wait" in my best "mom-means-it" voice. He waited. He was also informed, mid-victory-lap, that today's grooming appointment would NOT be canceled on account of his wilderness adventure.
Justice has been served, with shampoo. He looks fabulous and has learned nothing.
