If I said down, I have to mean down—even with a bag in one hand and a leash in the other.

I did not suddenly know 20% more about cocktails.

A fancy label changed what people assumed about me. It didn’t change my skill.

Dog training has the same problem. Calling yourself a ‘behaviorist’ sounds impressive. It’s still just a word until the work backs it up.

What title makes you instantly skeptical?

I LOVE a spring pole for the right dog.

It gives them a place to put their drive, get satisfaction and exercise, and practice shutting it off when asked.

The best part isn’t the pulling. It’s the moment Jordy hears ‘enough,’ lets go, and comes back down.

Big feelings need an outlet—and an off switch.

I actually 100% disagree. If a dog is an emotional, intelligent, sentient being, where's the real difference between that and a human? Dogs have emotions, they can learn — they just can't reason the way we do.

Fetch is fun. ‘Find it’ makes the nose do the work.

Throw the toy somewhere your dog can’t see it land—like tall grass or weeds—and let them hunt for it.

Same toy. Same throw. A lot more mental work.

Does your dog use their nose or just wait for you to point?

Your dog notices when the rule disappears in inconvenient moments. If ‘down’ matters, it still matters while your hands are full.

dog knows exactly when you’re least likely to follow through. That’s where consistency is trained. dog notices every loophole.

Geordi knows ‘down.’ He also knows exactly when most people stop caring—like when they’re holding a p**p bag and their hands are full.

If I say down here and let him break it, I’m teaching him that the rule changes when life gets inconvenient.

Consistency isn’t repeating yourself louder. It’s meaning what you say in the boring moments too.

Where does your dog test the rules the most?

Why is he doing that? Dogs are emotional, intelligent, sentient beings. Understanding their behavior starts with seeing things from their perspective.

Before you trust a dog-training certification, ask one question: where’s the proof?

If I hold up a certificate that says I can play guitar but you’ve never heard me play, that paper doesn’t make you feel safe. Same with dog training.

There is no piece of paper that replaces seeing someone do the work. I’ve trained over 1,000 dogs. Proof, not papers.

What matters more to you when choosing a trainer: letters after their name or the dogs they’ve actually helped?

Dogs with big feelings can't just "calm down" on command. When your dog is overwhelmed by guests, noise, or excitement, they need co-regulation and skill-building — not punishment for having emotions.
