If you've recently brought home a puppy, this is the most important thing you'll read this week.
Between the ages of approximately three and sixteen weeks, your puppy's brain is in a state of neurological openness that will never return. During this window, they are building the emotional architecture that will govern how they respond to the world for the rest of their life.
New sounds. New surfaces. New people. New dogs. New environments. Handled gently and positively during this period, these become normal. Missed — or introduced poorly — they can become triggers for fear, reactivity, or anxiety that you will spend years trying to manage.
This is not alarmist. It is how dog development works.
The owners who struggle most with reactive, anxious, or difficult-to-manage adult dogs are frequently the owners who, through no fault of their own, didn't know about this window — or knew about it too late.
What good early socialisation includes:
✔ Positive exposure to other dogs of varying sizes and temperaments
✔ Handling of paws, ears, mouth, and body by multiple people
✔ Introduction to different floor surfaces, sounds, and environments
✔ Structured interactions that build confidence rather than overwhelm
✔ Calm, professional supervision during every new experience
Dogma's puppy classes are designed specifically for dogs in and around this developmental window. We don't simply put puppies together and let them play. We structure every session with their neurological development in mind.
If your puppy is under four months old or if you know someone who has just brought one home the time to act is now. Not next month.
