*Daily Crochet*

I think it is time for me to step into the Sun and show you who I am and what I do.

Let us begin with Miriam Makeba

Aka

MAMA AFRICA.
A Poem by Me.

She sang where silence reigned,
a voice like fire breaking chains.
From the dusty streets of Johannesburg
to stages the world had never named,
her melody was a weapon,
her rhythm a cry for freedom.

Exiled, yet never voiceless,
she carried Africa in her throat—
each note a homeland,
each lyric a map back to dignity.
The world tried to erase her roots,
but they only grew deeper,
twisting into drums and ululations,
into the language of the people.

She stood before nations,
not as entertainer but as witness,
testifying to the weight of apartheid,
the cost of silence,
the courage of the oppressed.

Her songs were not just songs—
they were marches,
they were banners unfurled,
they were the hands of mothers
lifting children above the smoke of struggle.

Miriam, Mama Africa,
you taught us that art is never idle,
that a song can build a movement,
that a woman’s voice
can shake empires to their knees.

And still today,
your echo calls us to rise,
to sing against injustice,
to dance toward freedom,
to remember—
that even in exile,
home can be carried
in the power of a song.
