Many dogs are getting training that is misaligned...

Obedience training is a skill-building tool. It teaches your dog what to do. It works beautifully when the dog is calm, focused, and emotionally regulated. But when a dog is reactive, anxious, fearful, or escalating, obedience alone doesn't touch what's actually happening. You can't train your way out of an emotional problem with commands.

That's where behavior modification comes in. It works on the root cause. The emotional state.

The reason your dog loses its mind at the vet even though it knows exactly how to sit.

Some dogs need both. Most reactive or anxious dogs need behavior mod first, obedience second. Getting that order wrong is one of the most common and most expensive mistakes owners make.

Swipe through to see the 5 signs your dog might need more than basic obedience. If you're not sure which one fits your situation, that's exactly what a free consult is for. We'll give you an honest answer either way.

Most people hear "balanced training" and either assume we're handing out treats every five seconds or that we're being harsh with their dog... that's not what it is.
LIMA stands for Least Invasive, Minimally Aversive. It's a framework that means we work through a hierarchy: we ask before we tell, we reward before we correct, and we build a real working relationship with your dog before we ever demand anything from it.
Does that mean we never use corrections? No. Does it mean every dog gets the same approach? Absolutely not. What it means is that we never reach for more pressure than the situation actually calls for, and we never use a tool we haven't earned the right to use with that specific dog.
A dog trained this way isn't just obedient... It's confident. It knows what's being asked of it, it trusts its handler, and it performs because the communication is clear.

If you've been confused about training methods or burned by someone who couldn't explain why they were doing what they were doing, a free consult is a good place to start. Link in bio.

If working with dogs every day sounds like a dream job, this one actually is.

Full Focus K9 is growing, and we're looking for 2 Full-Time Dog Trainers to join our team.

This isn't a "throw you to the wolves" situation. You'll spend your first 2 months shadowing our current trainer... learning our system, getting real hands-on experience, and building your confidence before flying solo.

We're here to set you up to succeed.

You'll work with:
🐾 Puppies
🐾 Obedience
🐾 Reactivity
🐾 Behavior modification
🐾 And more, based on your strengths

Experience is preferred — but we know that drive and work ethic matter just as much. If you're the kind of person who obsesses over getting it right and genuinely loves this work, we want to talk.

What we're looking for:
✔️ Dependable and self-motivated
✔️ Passionate about dogs (obviously)
✔️ Flexible schedule during your 2-month training period
✔️ Local to Dacula / Gwinnett area — or willing to make the drive

Pay is very competitive for this area.

We're also hiring one Part-Time Kennel Tech if that's more your speed right now.

Your dog is communicating with you every single day.. are you fluent in their language yet?

Every dog is an individual. A yawn at bedtime is just a yawn. A yawn the moment a stranger reaches for your dog's face?
That's your dog asking for space.

🐾 SUBTLE SIGNS YOUR DOG IS ANXIOUS:
→ Whale eye (whites of the eyes showing)
→ Ears pinned back or rapidly swiveling
→ Yawning out of context
→ Lip licking or nose licking
→ Head turned away
→ Low tail — even a wagging one
→ Body weight shifted back, crouching low
→ Sudden sniffing or "forgetting" their training
→ Freezing

Some of these will look completely normal to the untrained eye. Anxiety doesn't always look like panic. Sometimes it looks like your dog being "distracted" or "stubborn."

So what do you do when you catch these signs?

Well, it depends.

If the trigger is something your dog can handle with a little distance, increase that distance. Don't flood them. Don't push through it hoping they'll "get used to it." Create space, let them breathe, and set them up to succeed.

If your dog is shut down, frozen, or escalating, remove them from the situation. There is no training happening when a dog is over threshold. You're not building confidence... You're building a case for why that thing is terrifying.

What you want to avoid is accidentally reinforcing avoidance patterns over time.

Now scroll back to that last slide. What anxious signs do you see in this Rottie? Tell us in the comments!

Hey, I’m Brandon! I’m new to the FFK9 team, but my passion for animals is nothing new. I’ve had just about every kind of pet you can think of - from turtles and parakeets to dogs. Originally from Brooklyn, New York, I moved to Monroe, Georgia at a young age, where I grew up around dogs, especially hunting dogs in the countryside.

I currently work in law enforcement and have experience working alongside K9 units from various agencies, though I am not currently assigned to one. I’m also connected with the owner of Georgia Emergency Search and Rescue and preparing to begin working with one of their dogs.

My training journey began in 2019 while studying psychology at Georgia State University, where I discovered a passion for dog behavior and training. I first applied those concepts helping my ex’s Cane Corso, Saphira, overcome severe separation anxiety. From there, I advanced her obedience by teaching tasks such as holding doors open and retrieving household items. That experience confirmed I had found something I was meant to do.

Soon after, I worked with a reactive German Shepherd named Sam who was close to being rehomed because of behavioral issues. Through structured training and behavior modification, I was able to help keep Sam with her family. As word spread, more owners began reaching out for help, and what started as passion quickly became purpose.

Today, my work continues to grow through social media and word-of-mouth. I focus on building trust, clear communication, and lasting relationships between dogs and their owners. I’ve also completed professional coursework, including Theory & Principles of Modern Dog Training with Justin Rigney. I specialize in obedience, reactivity, and one of my favorite areas of training - teaching dogs to use their nose and tap into their natural instincts.
