So if you’re thinking about becoming a veterinarian, there’s a few things I really wish somebody would’ve told me earlier.
First… you do not have to be perfect.
I think a lot of students believe if they don’t have straight A’s or the perfect resume, they should just give up. But honestly, vet schools are looking at more than just grades. They wanna see dedication, leadership, communication skills, experience, and resilience too.
Second… vet school is mentally hard, not just academically hard.
Of course the coursework is difficult. But what surprised me the most was the pressure, the stress, and constantly feeling like you have to prove yourself. Learning how to protect your mental health is just as important as learning medicine.
And third… experience matters just as much as grades.
Before committing to this career, you really need hands-on experience working with veterinarians and animals. Not just because it helps your application, but because you need to truly understand the reality of this field.
Veterinary medicine is rewarding, emotional, exhausting, beautiful, unpredictable… and definitely never boring 😂
But if this is truly your passion, don’t let fear convince you that you can’t do it.
