🕊️ Willie — Forever Loved, Forever MissedWe laid Willie to rest on Friday. He has been with us since the spring of 2017, and from the moment he arrived, he carried a quiet, soft‑spoken presence that became part of the heartbeat of our rescue.Willie was saved from the kill pen with the promise that he was sound and well trained.
There was even a video of him being ridden through the auction by a man. But once he came home and we did X‑rays, we learned the truth — his pasterns were severely arthritic. I can only imagine he had been drugged or blocked to mask the pain.Even so, Willie was incredibly handy, kind, and truly well trained. He simply could no longer be ridden, so hebecame a sanctuary horse — and he filled that role with grace.Throughout his years with us, he had a few wonderful fosters.
Thank you, Debbie McGinnis, and thank you, Maureen Edwards, for loving him, caring for him, and giving him a safe place during his time with you. He eventually came back home to us and lived here for several years, deeply lovedby everyone.Willie adored his blankets, and he especially loved his Gwenny — they were inseparable. She misses him dearly, and so do all of us here at the rescue. Friday was a very sad day. Many tears were shed, and our hearts will always carry a Willie‑shaped hole.RIP Willie.
We love you. We miss you.
Run free, sweet boy.
