Tentative end of ‘26 into ‘27 Plans

Keep in mind literally anything could change. We are breeding several litters this winter ‘26 and taking a break until fall/winter ‘27 with the exception of MAYBEEEEEE one summer litter but I hate summer puppies.
That being said I’ve got some neat crosses for this winter.

Scraunch X Sadie (this will be her last litter for while)

Mort X outside gyp [nephew x aunt cross] (as of now no available puppies)

Outside male X Glow (these will be some HOG dog prospects)


We are now creating lists for available puppies. I will open 6 holes to the Sadie and Glow litters to begin with. Message me to get on the list!

***TAIL DOCKING AND NATURAL BOB TAILS IN CURR DOGS***

So let’s discuss tail docking as well as natural bob tails in curr type dogs…
Tail docking in my program is MANDATORY. Will you see long tail dogs in my program? Yes absolutely for several reasons.

Reason one: The health of the breed. The natural bob tail gene is a technical mutation in some breeds and repetitively breeding only natural bob tail to natural bob tails can over time cause spinal issues and deformations. Being able to mix the full long tail gene into natural bob tails creates and over all healthier look.

Reason two: The dog was whelped and bred off sight by someone who did not dock. Docking in especially Florida Curr Dogs used to be very common especially in certain family lines. (We will cover why later on) but as people have gotten old or lazy or a lot of the times are not taught it have become less and less common.

The reason behind docking. As Curr and Catahoula breeds have become bigger and more recognized the people who created the breeds have decided that the “long tail look” is more desirable. That’s fine if you just like the look of the long tails or if you are trying to preserve certain genetics for health but let’s dive into WHY docking these tails is so important and it is very simple. THE HEALTH OF THE WORKING DOG. These dogs are subject to so much as cattle dogs and hog dogs. (Not to mention any other form of work they are in.)

Imagine for a moment if you will a trailer load of horses and dogs beating across a rough pasture, or even a paved highway. You hit a hold and one of the horses has to abruptly step to shift his weight right on top of your dogs tail!!!! Now you get to where you are going and go to unload your dogs tail is broken if not severed. Does not make for a good start of your working day does it? Well you can argue “put them in a dog box” sometimes that is not an option due to the volume of people who are using dogs and who’s truck you are in! But let’s take it a step further they are working and working hard at stoping a bull in a rough patch of woods. And once again the bulls foot comes down and bam right on your dogs tail breaking it!!

Take for a second your waiting for a bay. How many times have you sat at the box and gotten mad because all you can hear is THUMP THUMP THUMP of a long tail against the box? Ever had a hog grab a dog by the tail?
Ever seen a gator do it?

Docking/ natural bob tails are just one less appendage that you have to worry about being injured while the dog is working. So yes while it has been deemed “the standard” in most recognized curr breeds. Bob tail Florida Curr Dogs are more than acceptable. As well as a kennel we will prioritize the working health of our dogs over a “look” and it is mandatory that all our dogs tails are docked before going to their new homes.

Introducing today RC “Feral Child’s Remote Control Dawg”.

RC is a daughter of Feral Child’s Mortimer and Lightsey’s Sadie Rae. She already exhibits the drive and want to make anything shut down as well as a good strong nose and gait. As well as she is genetically PERFECT with no red flags in her dna.

We are excited for her future and the big pretty gyp she is turning into.

(RC as well as all of our dogs are genetic and health tested and proven as working dogs before they ever become brood dogs. We strive to mold the future of working dogs and the Florida curr dog breed into something that will last and can be enjoyed for years to come!)

Second to introduce is Feral Child’s Mortimer!!

“Mort” is an F1 outcross on the same bloodlines that created our dogs. His mother being a genetic 3/4 sister to Feral Child’s Scraunch.

Mort presents a TON of hunt and range and although not as rough as his uncle he cannot stand cattle being spread out or walking off.

Mort is quickly taking place as a lead dog, with a little more seasoning, and from day one is a by himself kinda hound. He does not care about other dogs, or any attempt to get him out of the bunch until he is satisfied they are shut down, together and noses are in the middle.

Mort is a good cross for anyone wanting hunt and drive wether for cattle, hogs or, blood trails. He has a strong nose and is silent! (Honestly do not think I have ever heard him say a word!)
