Flop. Lovin' his first ever full Spring! Plenty of sunshine and HOT summer days ahead for this guy 🐾
Let's hope he makes some canine companions over the next few months. Dog park? Not necessarily for Odie at this time in his life. Not because we do not want to. Not because he wouldn't enjoy it -for a short while. But because not ALL dogs enjoy bigger packs of other canines running into them or at them, playing non stop..depends on the vibe at that current time too. Many variations of park mentality for both humans and dogs.
Yep. Otis he's typically a yard, free roaming solo pup. But he totally enjoys his humans along with a FEW select family & friend-pack play. His besties as of now are just Luci + Chewbacca. That's all fine by us and Otis.
Our, your, or any dog does NOT need to love every other dog they come into contact with or walk near.
Don't expect instant respect. First, we need to put in that work & grow a bond with your dog. Right? Would you not want that from your companion?
Would an employer expect a NEW employee to trust & be trusted, to give respect you on their first days with you? Nope.
Don't expect all this perfection from your dog. Ittakes consistency and patience. Be their SAFE space outside the home. Be their trusting companion and vice versa.
It is a continuous, day in and out work session for Otis. We wont toss him into a pack at a park to run him into the ground. Ya sure, add excess anxiety and confusion if you so, choos. "Eh he will manage" wont cut it! Thats when dangers can stir. I don't know your dog you don't know mine. But let us not assume it is the newbies fault.
PROTECT your dogs safety and be their advocate. But that doesn't mean hire them from all situations that are uncomfortable. WORK with them, they give you their unconditional love. So give them your unconditional attention & training.
Pull in a profesh when you need to. Try not to intentionally "hide" from these experiences. Take them on that walk around the neighborhood. Enjoy that time! Just because you don't go to the dog parks--does not mean you don't know how to play with other dogs.
