🐍🦎 A little behind-the-scenes look at feeding day at the sanctuary! 😅

With snakes, lizards, and other animals that eat whole prey, we go through A LOT of feeders. Keeping everyone fed means sourcing frozen rodents in pretty large quantities, so here’s just a glimpse at what one of our stock orders can look like! 😂

We’re incredibly grateful that Rodent Pro was kind enough to add Feather & Fang Animal Sanctuary to their donation program. ❤️ This is a huge help to us and allows us to put more of our resources toward the animals, veterinary care, enrichment, and our educational programs.

🐍🇵🇷 A VERY SPECIAL NEW ADDITION TO FEATHER & FANG! 🇵🇷🐍

We are incredibly excited to officially introduce our new pair of Puerto Rican Boas (Chilabothrus inornatus)! ❤️🐍

The Puerto Rican Boa is an incredible, nonvenomous species endemic to Puerto Rico and one of the island’s most fascinating native reptiles. These boas are nocturnal, semi-arboreal predators that play an important role in Puerto Rico’s ecosystem.

What makes this species especially significant from a conservation standpoint is its history. The Puerto Rican Boa was originally listed as Endangered under the Endangered Species Act in 1970 following major population declines and habitat loss. Decades of habitat protection, conservation work, research, translocation efforts, and public education helped the species recover to the point that the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service proposed removing it from the federal endangered species list.

The species also has a significant history under CITES, where Chilabothrus inornatus has been listed in Appendix I, providing international trade protections.

That history is exactly why we’re so excited to have this pair at Feather & Fang Animal Sanctuary.

These animals aren’t simply additions to our collection — they are an opportunity to educate the public about conservation success, responsible animal stewardship, international wildlife protections, and the importance of protecting biodiversity. 🌎🌿

We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to care for these amazing animals and hopefully introduce them to the community as future ambassadors for their species.

Y’all come check us out this Friday and Saturday at Gee Farms! We’re doing a collaboration booth with Ready Set Rescue, so come see our animals and meet over a dozen interactive ambassador species. From a tiny 5-inch hognose snake all the way up to a massive 16-foot reticulated python, there will be plenty of amazing animals to see and learn about.

We’ll also have merchandise available, so be sure to stop by and say hello!

This is going to be an incredible event featuring dozens of vendors, delicious food trucks, live music, and both nights will end with an exciting fireworks show. We can’t wait to see everyone there!
