The term “Dog Days” has been used for thousands of years to describe the hottest, most sweltering part of summer. It’s tied to Sirius, the Dog Star — and fittingly, Sirius is associated with “scorching.” Which seems pretty appropriate for the Texas Panhandle. Amarillo has already logged at least 16 days at 100° or hotter this year.

Ted has apparently decided the most sensible response to scorching is to simply sleep through it.

On the couch.
On the floor.
Upside down.
In whatever position requires the absolute minimum amount of effort. His summer survival plan appears to be:
Nap. Reposition. Nap again. Repeat until October.
