We know it’s quickly approaching Halloween and spooky vibes are high, but there is something particularly SCARY that we just aren’t into. Not being able to find forever homes for AMAZING pairs of perfect kittens like C-Note and Hundy keeping us from saving more kittens that need us! 👻

We are baffled, bewildered and a little bewitched as to what could be happening in the universe to make these gray girlies have to wait this long for a home. We’ve actually considered that a hex has been cast on our rescue to block their Petfinder listings from being seen. But who would do such a thing?!

C-Note and Hundy have been with us since June when they were rescued as scared little babies in DC. They’re now 5 months old, absolutely gorgeous, and a dynamic duo ready to bring biscuits and beauty to a deserving family. When we say biscuits, we mean BISCUITS, because the only thing these girls take more seriously than their bedtime snack routine is clocking in at the biscuit factory on their favorite fluffy bed.

We think the girls would appreciate a more lowkey home because little kids that make a lot of racket have been a touch too spooky for them. They adore their big foster brother, Simon, so other kitties in the house would be just fine.

Three incredible cats. Three very different personalities. One diagnosis that makes finding their forever homes so much harder than it should be.

Feline leukemia virus (FeLV) is a virus that affects a cat’s immune system and can make them more vulnerable to infections and certain illnesses. While FeLV can shorten a cat’s lifespan, a positive diagnosis doesn’t mean a cat can’t enjoy years of love, sunshine, and a wonderfully full life.

Unfortunately, FeLV+ cats are among the most overlooked in rescue. Many struggle to find organizations willing to take them in, let alone adopters willing to give them a chance.

At Tails High, we love helping these special kitties, but we also know that taking one into foster care often means a much longer commitment. Interested adopters are few and far between, even when the cats themselves are absolutely delightful.

And we’d love nothing more than to change that. Because Sir Archibald McChicken, Clair de Lune, and Tig Tig Twiggy are SO much more than a diagnosis.

Sir Archibald is our gentle giant with magnificent floofy pantaloons. Clair de Lune is a sunbathing calico princess who appreciates the simple things in life. And Tig Tig Twiggy? She’s a hilariously affectionate orange girly pop with opinions, preferences, and absolutely no hesitation about expressing either. We could gush about these three young adults all day.

What they need isn’t pity. It’s someone who sees everything wonderful about them and understands that FeLV is only one part of their story. With appropriate veterinary care, a safe indoor home, and lots of love, FeLV+ cats can thrive. They deserve that opportunity just as much as any other kitty.

We see bright futures for Archie, Lune, and Twiggy. We just need the right people to see them, too.

In true Bart fashion, he has surprised us yet again. This time, it’s a GOOD SURPRISE!

Kate got Bart to the clinic first thing this morning to recheck his PCV. After a bit of a trying weekend with some upset tummy troubles and an on again off again appetite, we were worried that Bart would likely be back in the single digits and in need of another transfusion. We had prepared a plan to seek a more elaborate cross-matching procedure for Bart’s next blood transfusion to be as safe and effective as possible. Lo and behold, the amazing boy’s bone marrow did some long awaited work and he was up to 13%!

To say we were elated is an understatement! Bart being such a silly boy throughout his time at Tails High has in turn created a foster mom club that adores Bart so freaking much. Between all of us ladies (and some foster Dads too), the happy tears and sighs of relief could be heard almost as loud as the vet tech shouting “oh sh*t!” as Bart had his blood draw. Low red blood cell count be damned, this boy continues to show his ridiculous personality at all times 😅.

To be clear, we are not out of the woods just yet. Pure Red Cell Aplasia is a long game to manage and we have to monitor Bart closely to ensure the steroids continue to do their job. But this is the encouraging sign of progress we all needed.

We are so grateful for your support for Bart and all of the humans who adore him. Those adoptions that didn’t work out, in hindsight, were all just the necessary turns in his road to bring him back to where he needed to be to get this level of care. We look forward to him being back to his absolutely perfect self - with enough normal red blood cells to not terrify us all - so he can finally have the forever home he deserves.

Halloween costumes, cozy couch snuggles, new best friends, tiny bleps, silly zoomies, senior moments, and even a birthday theme entirely dedicated to the cat their human siblings adore. We really can’t sum up all of the feels these updates give us. How are we so lucky to find these amazing forever homes for our precious kitties time and time again? Today, we’re feeling so grateful and hope these adorable faces give you some much needed joy.

From “feral” to full-blown queen of the bed. Piggly Wiggly has made an epic transformation in the year since coming indoors. Yesterday was National Feral Cat Day, and it got us thinking about the words and labels we use for cats.

It’s kind of crazy how frequently the word “feral” is misused. In Piggly’s case, she was never truly feral. She was a well-cared-for community cat who had limited human interaction and was undersocialized. As she grew older and her health declined, life outdoors was no longer safe for her. Otherwise, she might have been perfectly content to stay right where she was. Instead, she was given a chance at indoor life, and she’s finally embraced it!

Back to that feral label. We often hear people describe outdoor cats, especially those with ear tips, as feral. But that isn’t necessarily a fair assessment. Feral describes a cat’s behavior toward humans, not where they live. Truly feral cats are generally fearful of people and avoid interaction, often running away, hiding, or hissing when approached.

Not all community cats are feral. Some are actually quite friendly! But with limited rescue space, shelter resources, and available homes, remaining outdoors with a dedicated caretaker may be the best option for cats who have adapted well to that life.

Piggly Wiggly is one lucky lady. Thanks to DC TNR Volunteers , she was rescued before another harsh winter she likely wouldn’t have survived. We’re so grateful to her foster mom Kiri Anderer for providing the attentive care she’s needed, along with the patience and love that helped her learn to trust.

Not every community cat will have Piggly’s opportunity, nor does every cat need it. But we can make their lives better by supporting local TNR efforts, advocating for community cats, and encouraging our communities to prioritize spaying and neutering.

And as for our newly crowned queen of the bed? Piggly Wiggly is adoptable, and we can’t wait to find her the special home she deserves! 🩶

Houston, we have a problem. Two of our Moon Babies are still waiting for their forever homes, and we simply cannot understand how they haven’t been scooped up yet! 🌙🌙

At 3 months old, sisters Telesto and Tethys are the last two little moons left orbiting Tails High after their siblings found their forever families. These girls have plenty of gravitational pull of their own, and we’re hoping the right humans will soon fall under their spell!

When they’re not busy with their usual kitten antics, wrestling matches, and enthusiastic play sessions, you’ll find these celestial sweethearts lounging by the window, watching the world go by. They’ve also mastered the art of trading lunar lunacy for some very sweet snuggles.

Recently, Telesto and Tethys accepted an important new assignment in a different foster home, serving as companions to our little FIP warrior, Lollipop! They’ve settled into their new positions beautifully, proving that they’re just as good at making friends as they are at making mischief.

While we’d love to see these sisters stay in the same orbit forever, they’re also perfectly capable of launching their own adventures. They’d make an absolutely wonderful pair for someone hoping to adopt two kittens, but either girl would also thrive in a home with another fun, playful young kitty to be her partner in crime.

Of course, we might be biased, but when the universe offers you two adorable moons, why settle for one?

Keke was the only one of her litter to survive. At just a few weeks old, she was so fragile that her tiny bones could fracture at the smallest movement. 🐾

Specialists feared a rare condition with a grim outlook and no treatment. Her foster and rescue refused to accept that answer without chasing every other possibility.

There is nothing more we could hope for than to choose every cat that needs a chance. The reality is, there are so many that need help.

While Yellow Brick Road went from lying in a pile of bricks at a dangerous factory, unable to use her legs, and near death to a silly and sassy girl getting better and better every day, her story had many pieces fall together to make it all happen. The compassionate community member that saw her suffering and found help. The quick acting trappers that went to secure her to safety. The network of rescuers that received the plea for backing for an ER visit. The volunteer that spent hours on the phone with the veterinarian to advocate for her. The amazing Licensed Vet Tech that offered her safe haven for quarantine and ongoing care. The supporters that donated to her medical bills.

We wish it was as simple as saying “yes” but we know we cannot make any of this possible without the bricks in that road coming perfectly aligned.

Yellow Brick Road continues to amaze us all and bring a smile to our faces. She is currently in treatment for neurological FIP, but she doesn’t let it slow her down one bit. Yellie has limited vision but she couldn’t care less. She’s the sweetest girl you’ll ever meet, loving kisses, belly rubs, and maybe Churu a little bit more than she should.

These super sweet girls are having a great time in the new foster home, but they still haven’t received any adoption applications. Things have been extra slow this year, it seems.

They are fun, playful, and very loving little girls. They’ll spend all their free time snuggling on you - after they’ve finished wrestling, of course.

Born on the 4th of July, they’ve grown up together with their siblings, but then everyone else was adopted and these two ladies remained. It would be extra wonderful if they were adopted together 😻

Everyone’s favorite silly boy needs his village once again. While Bart is excellent at keeping secrets, he hasn’t been able to hide his plummeting red blood cell count from the watchful eyes of foster mom Kate.

Bright and early tomorrow morning, Bart and Louie will head back to Harmony Hill for Bart to receive another blood transfusion. Dr. Werden, because she’s brilliant, explained the conundrum we find ourselves in when dealing with suspected Pure Red Cell Aplasia and why it was best to wait until a transfusion was absolutely necessary to help Bart how his body needs. He needs blood but he also needs time for the steroids to work and his body to start making red blood cells again. And too many transfusions too quickly in succession poses risks that Bart can’t take, for once.

So despite being a trickster and a dude that likes to get all of our heart rates up from time to time, Bart promises to be the best boy and try really hard to get better.

Bobby, the President of the Bartholomeow Fan Club (yes, it’s an official position) was so happy to shower his best pal with TLC since he’s been home. We know it’s helping.

We’ve been asking for a lot from you lately. You might have noticed we’ve had quite a few expensive emergencies and our bills are stacking as high as Bart climbing on the cabinets to the ceiling of the vet clinic. We’re appreciative of a donation of any amount or a share to help us reach new cool people that love cats as much as we do.
