Nothing sends us into a long holiday weekend happier than a little magic.

As summer winds down, we’re soaking up these updates from adopters and smiling at kitties who once needed someone to take a chance on them now living the very best lives. Some overcame incredible odds to get here, and seeing them safe, adored, and exactly where they belong never gets old.

Here’s hoping the end of summer brings even more adoptions, more happily ever afters, and more Tails High kitties getting their turn to become someone’s whole world.

These smiles should last us all weekend. 💛

Meet Equinox, the sweetest Silly Guy™ you’ll ever meet. Our little 1-year-old boy is basically the total package, as far as cats go. Loving? Check. Playful and fun? Check. Lap cat and snuggle muffin? Check and check.

The most accurate way to describe Equinox, we think, is that he’s just sooooo baby. His absolute favorite pastime is a good, long cuddle, preferably as close to you as physically possible. He loves being cradled in his person’s arms while you shower him with love and kisses. At night, Nox will sleep pressed against you, ideally with his face against yours.

We’re honestly amazed by him. Equinox went from surviving outside in horrendous conditions, abandoned at the site of one of the most tragic hoarding cases we’ve encountered, to walking into a foster home and becoming an instantly perfect indoor baby boy. Somehow, after everything humans failed to give him before, he still loves people with his entire heart.

Equinox is a Companion Cat through and through. If you work from home, Nox will be by your side all day, preferably on your lap and occasionally on your computer when you need help writing emails. If you leave, he’ll be waiting to greet you when you return with excited squeaks, a biiiiig stretch up your body to get his face closer to yours, and an immediate request for the cuddles he has clearly been deprived of for HOURS.

You probably haven’t known what it means to be loved until you’ve been loved by Equinox. He’s one of a kind, delightfully goofy, endlessly affectionate, and so ready to finally be someone’s baby boy, cherished and cared for exactly as he deserves.

We are incredibly grateful for fosters like Kate and everyone who stepped up to make it possible for us to say yes to Equinox and the other cats from this heartbreaking situation. There are still more kitties we hope to bring to safety in the coming weeks, but we can only do that if we have somewhere safe for them to land.

Yesterday was extremely emotional and exhausting as we navigated emergency care for Yellow Brick Road. Less than 48 hours later, we are incredibly grateful to tell you that Yellow is alive, she is safe, she is eating, and we have more hope for her future than we did when this journey began.

Critical cases can require difficult conversations and a lot of advocacy. When a cat with an unknown vaccine history presents with severe neurological symptoms, rabies has to be considered. For Yellow, that meant an abundance of caution at the ER and repeated recommendations for humane euthanasia and rabies testing.

Without seeing Yellow for ourselves, we relied on everything we’ve learned from other critical cases and our intuition that this was not the end of the road for her. The doctor found no external trauma to support the suspicion she had been hit by a car and no bite wounds. Her bloodwork had concerning abnormalities, some potentially explained by what her body endured surviving outside. Most importantly, we were assured she wasn’t in pain.

So we asked more questions, pursued more diagnostics, and decided Yellow deserved more time.

Our wonderful friend Kristin agreed to foster Yellow through her quarantine, and an angel Susan transported her there late last night. Then came the videos we desperately needed to see. This profoundly wobbly girl ate plate after plate of food and behaved remarkably like many CH cats we’ve rescued before.

Today, Yellow saw Dr. Werden at Harmony Hill. Cerebellar hypoplasia is now a top differential, but she has referred us to Neurology at VRA to ensure nothing else is contributing to Yellow’s severe symptoms.

Thanks to you, we’ve raised just under $1,500 for Yellow. This covered her $676 ER bill and is helping with her growing Harmony Hill invoice and upcoming VRA appointment.

We don’t have all the answers yet, and there are still important pieces of Yellow’s story we need to understand. But Yellow Brick Road has somewhere safe to land, an incredible team in her corner, and all of us cheering her on as we figure out where her road leads next. 💛

We really need your help today. This morning started like so many others, with emails and messages from people desperately trying to find help for cats and kittens in need. But for one little guy, the right people saw the plea at exactly the right time.

Hours ago, he was lying helpless in the brush at a dangerous brick factory. Now, Yellow Brick Road is at the ER vet getting the care he desperately needs.

Some wonderful women rallied around this baby and made sure he got to safety quickly. Yellow Brick Road is unable to walk normally and is showing concerning neurological symptoms. A traumatic brain injury is one possibility, but right now, there are several things the veterinary team needs to rule out.

He may have been hit by a car. He may have been injured by equipment at the factory, something that has tragically happened to cats at this location before. We also have to consider infectious disease as a possible cause of his neurological symptoms and proceed carefully while we learn more. We have authorized a sedated exam, bloodwork and X-rays to begin finding answers.

We don’t know where Yellow Brick Road’s path will lead yet. What we do know is that he isn’t lying alone in that brush anymore. He is safe. He is surrounded by people fighting for him. And whatever comes next, he will know the love and care he deserved all along.

Keepsake, the lone survivor of a litter of 10 kittens born outside and ravaged by flystrike, maggots, and elements no baby should ever be exposed to, is fighting to stay here with us. For four weeks, Keke has received round the clock care from her incredible foster mom. Without her neonatal expertise, we know she wouldn’t still be here.

Keepsake saw Dr. Werden at Harmony Hill yesterday as we continue trying to understand everything happening with her. Despite antibiotics and pain medication for pneumonia and septic arthritis affecting all four limbs, she continues to struggle with abnormal breathing and regulating her body temperature. We now believe she may have chondrodysplasia, causing her leg bones to develop abnormally, along with neurological concerns including possible hydrocephalus. Keke has been referred to VRA, where she’ll see Dr. Kaiman in neurology and consult with Dr. Ganjei in specialty surgery next week.

Keepsake’s story is also why preventing more kittens from being born matters so deeply. Kittens like Keke are born outside every day, and many suffer or die within their first weeks. We are fortunate to have expert fosters, specialized equipment, veterinary care, and a community that gives us the resources to fight for her. Most never have that chance.

We cannot rescue or adopt our way out of overpopulation. Spay, neuter and TNR are essential, and that includes spaying pregnant cats. Tails High will always prioritize an expedited spay rather than allowing a pregnant cat to give birth in rescue. Pregnancy and delivery carry risks for the mother, while being born in a foster home cannot prevent congenital abnormalities, medical complications, suffering or death.

There are already more kittens waiting for help than rescues have space to save. Preventing another litter is humane. It protects the mother, prevents suffering and supports the tireless work of TNR volunteers working to end this cycle at its source.

We will keep fighting for Keepsake and for a future where fewer kittens ever have to fight this hard just to survive. 🤎🗝️

Dione (aka Dee Dee) has always been quite the little climber! From a young age, she was pulling herself up onto things and climbing to the top of every obstacle, proving to be the challenge when it came to keeping them contained in a pen when younger. Now she rules the kingdom after scaling all the way to the top of the Kitty Kasa castles 😺
