Sometimes we rescue people. Sometimes we rescue horses. And sometimes, the horses rescue us. 💛🐴

We have officially placed Mr. Yellow Fellow in his last and forever home, which opened the door for us to welcome Tony. He will be rehabilitated first, and if he shows the aptitude for it, we will eventually put him on the pattern and see what he can do.

But I want to make something very clear: We are not a rescue. I do, however, take on certain horses when the situation is right and I believe I can make a difference.

To me, a rescue is a horse purchased directly from a confirmed kill buyer or one whose owner is no longer able or willing to provide the care it needs. Any horse I take on must fall within my area of expertise so I can give that horse a real chance at a better life.

And one thing I will NEVER do is solicit donations to pay for a horse’s purchase, feed, veterinary care, or rehabilitation. If I choose to take on a horse, the responsibility is mine.

Let me tell you a little about the palomino in this video.

A lady purchased him from the Stroud kill pen. I had already learned that some people in this business will say just about anything to sell a horse, and I cannot support dishonesty or a lack of integrity.

I don’t believe the lady who bought him necessarily realized he wasn’t going to be what she wanted. She later listed him for sale, presumably hoping to make a small profit, which I can understand. I purchased him from her, and once he arrived here, the real work began.

We went straight into rehabilitation.

He was vetted, and his teeth were floated, which also helped confirm his age. He went to the farrier, and he was incredibly sore in the front because his feet had been left so short.

His feeding program includes Bermuda and alfalfa twice daily, along with grass turnout. He also receives senior feed, GutX, OsteoMax, and 14% creep feed.

As you can see in the video, he had a bite wound on his shoulder that became infected. I’ve treated him with Uniprim powder and have worked with Dr. Collett on his wound care.

This is what taking responsibility for a horse looks like. It isn’t just buying one and telling the world you saved it. It’s putting in the time, money, care, and work to help that horse become healthy and whole again.

His new owners have already put down a deposit and are coming tomorrow to pick him up. He is headed toward his next chapter, and that is what makes all the work worthwhile.

Now, let’s talk about the bay gelding.

I purchased him directly from Bowie of O’Dwyer Horses. I have not personally been lied to or misled by him, and based on my own experience, I am willing to do business with him. Unless he proves otherwise.

That doesn’t mean I agree with every opinion people have about him, nor does it mean I am asking anyone else to agree with me. He may or may not be what others believe him to be. I can only speak to my own experiences and the decisions I make.

The reality is that horses sell at auction for prices low enough that kill buyers can purchase them and resell them. I will continue bidding against Bowie, Stroud, and other kill buyers at those auctions whenever I can.

And yes, I know some killbuyers work together through straw bidding. That’s a story for another time.

My point is simple: I will make my own decisions based on what I know, what I have personally experienced, and what I believe is right.

Here is where I draw the line.

Sadly, I believe too many operations hide behind the word rescue while using horses to solicit money that may never actually benefit those animals.

There is a difference between exploiting a horse’s circumstances to collect donations and privately taking on the financial responsibility of buying, rehabilitating, training, and responsibly placing that horse.

If you purchase a horse, invest your own time and money into making it healthy and useful, and then find it an appropriate home, you are doing something good. You are giving that animal a chance at a better future.

That is what we strive to do.

Many of the horses that have been with me for a year or longer will never leave. They have a home here for as long as they need one.

Others, after being rehabilitated to the highest standards we can provide, may be offered for sale at a price that reflects their fair market value. And by that point, I am often financially in the red.

I do it anyway.

Not because I expect recognition. Not because I want donations. Not because I need to call myself a rescue.

I do it because I believe I was called to do it. And because this is what I’m good at.

I know this industry isn’t perfect. I know people will disagree with my decision to rescue and rehab and that’s okay. I don’t expect everyone to see things the way I do.

And again most of our horses are not rescues as I place as many as I can. But some are. Some are bred and raised here. Some were just purchased from a good home selling something I liked.

But I will always believe in doing the work, being honest about what we do, taking responsibility for the animals we bring home, and making decisions based on what is best for the horse.

At the end of the day, the goal isn’t to save every horse in the world. None of us can do that.

The goal is to make a real difference for the ones we can help.

Sometimes we rescue people. Sometimes we rescue horses. And sometimes, if we’re lucky, we get to watch those horses go on to rescue someone else. 💛🐴

I’m realizing I love the horses we have too much. It’s getting really hard do want to sell anymore. But I am tired! So it’s selfish of me to keep all of them. If you have a specific need, dm us! Chances are we have at least one that fits exactly. And if they don’t, I’m no hurry to sell. 😊 I just want what is best for each one and to find families that Will love them as much as we do. Here are some snaps of a few not all are up for grabs but just so you have an idea. ❤️

The hot and dry dog days of summer 2026, won’t soon be forgotten. This reminds me of Gilroy foothills in the 90s. Hot. Dry and sparse. Only difference is it eventually rained in California. 🥵 we are ready for fall here at the ranch! Now these horses have a big pond and more shade they just chose to stand where they are. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ we are all over it. George is incredibly happy to be home with his buddies.

The dog days of summer 2026 are dragging on, even the mares are sick of it. 😆
