Three year old Burger is near Nashville TN and needs a new home by the end of June. Her owner has taken a job overseas and can’t take her. She must go to a home without another ferret. She stress poops and pees when around other ferrets, so it’s not worth the risk to her. She’s used to being in a home with a human present all the time, so should go to a home where a human is not away from home most of the time.

She is gentle and sweet and is most playful in the morning. She loves to cuddle and sits in a cat bed at her owner’s feet. She likes to cuddle in bed too. She loves car rides and going wherever you go. She will follow you all over the house and listens well when you call her, in general. She’s a sweet and playful girl, gentle with kids and loves to play with cats. She’s not been around dogs.

She’s eating Marshall’s chicken select and gets a soup made of it every day. She likes Marshall's Bandits treats and occasionally swipes an Oven Roasted Chicken Greenie dental treat from my cats. She likes boxes, her bean box, noodle boxes, balls, riding and attacking scarves or towels.

She does have adrenal disease and received a Des implant in July 2025. These last 8-12 months. So, she’ll be due no later than July.

She is free to a good home and comes with her cage and supplies. There is an adoption process. I do ask that the person who gets her make a donation to the rescue for help in getting her into the home.

Two year old Harley was seen at the vet this week. Since he's come in, I've noticed him backing up to go potty, not going, and doing that a couple of times before finally going. This can be a sign of a urinary tract infection, bladder stones, swollen prostate, urinary tract crystals, cancer, swollen preputial gland, etc. It can also be a psychological thing ferrets due to act like they're leaving their scent to mark territory when they actually aren't, or perhaps they're leaving a couple of drops as scent. I decided it was best to have him checked out. The vet found no issues. Just said to keep an eye on him.

URINARY TRACT ISSUES
If a ferret's having problems urinating, it's not just painful, it's a serious problem. If enough urine backs up in the bladder, it can rupture, an incredibly traumatic and painful way to die.

If there's pain, the ferret isn't going to eat or drink enough. Without enough fluids, the kidneys are strained trying to filter poisons from the bloodstream. Enough strain on the kidneys results in them breaking down and renal failure occurs. Renal failure means death. Depending upon the ferret's age and health, this could be as fast as a couple of days.

Below are symptoms of urinary tract problems, which include urinary tract infection, kidney stones, bladder stones, urinary tract crystals, prostate swelling, preputial gland enlargement, and more. Any of these symptoms should be seen by a vet.
< Blood in urine
< Straining to urinate
< Showing signs of pain when urinating (whimpering, grimacing, eyes watering)
< Dribbles urine after walking away (indicates there's still urine in the bladder that's not being expelled due to pain)
< Urine is really concentrated yellow (indicates urine is being held due to pain or not enough fluid intake)
< Urine is brown (can indicate blood in urine or being held due to pain)
< Not urinating every few hours like normal (can indicate urine is being held due to pain)
< Urinating large amounts at one time (can indicate urine is being held due to pain)
< Solids in urine that is not stool (as seen in pic)
< Frequent defecation (can indicate the colon is being aggravated from bladder or prostate swelling or from pain)
< Swelling around the p***s or v***a.

Ways to prevent a UTI: Keep the litter box clean! Give water from a bowl, rather than a bottle. Have water available on at least two levels of the cage, as well as in each room where the ferret is allowed to play. Give the ferret a tub or pan of water with toys in it to play in. It will drink water every time it's playing. I put mine in the bath tub.

STRESS and FERRETS
Ferrets get stressed easily and get sick easily from being stressed. Stress can be from not having enough space to play or things to play with, not getting out of the cage/room enough, being handled too much/not enough/the wrong way, too much noise, too much activity while trying to sleep, being fed the wrong food, and so on. Small stressors can be enough to push the ferret over the edge and make it get sick.

Long term stress can result in inflammatory bowel disorder, upset stomach, Helicobacter Pylori bacterial infection, fur loss, weight loss, and even an ulcer or cancer, which can be deadly. One ferret can have Helicobacter and not have symptoms, butt can pass it to another ferret or human!

If your ferret is stressed from anything - arriving or going to a new home, moving, vet visit, new ferret, new person or pet in the home, not getting enough time out of the cage or room, having had a bath, trip outside of the house, etc. - do not do anything else to stress it for a few days.

Any time the ferret has been stressed, it will likely sleep more than normal. Let it sleep as much as it wants. This is its body's way of healing and keeping things from getting worse. The ferret may also have stress induced diarrhea for a couple of days. This diarrhea should slowly start getting better over a few days. If, for more than two days, the diarrhea is all liquid or doesn't change, see a vet.

It's $2 Tuesday! This week we're raising funds for Gabe's ongoing adrenal disease treatment. He came in nearly bald and is doing much better after a Suprelorin (Des) implant and Lupron injection. His tail fur is still very thin, so he recently got a melatonin implant and will receive another Lupron injection. You can help with a donation, liking the post, sharing the post and commenting!
VenMo -Matters-Ferret-Rescue (may ask for 0070), Zelle or Paypal [email protected], check to 4233 Zephyrhills Dr NW, Acworth GA 30101, or credit card payment as a donation to the rescue vet 770-614-9060. (CashApp not currently available.)

CashApp is requiring me to set up a business account so they can charge fees on each transaction. I've been trying to set this up for several hours and it's not accepting the info, so I have to call them. Until then, I can't accept CashApp.
