I’m not sure why when I sat down and made the hatch card for this batch after I set the eggs that I didn’t look at lockdown day and go hmm maybe that days gonna be a little hectic maybe I should push it back by a day and set them later?.. Nope. Apparently that was a problem for future me. Well future me has a bone to pick with past me because today was a mess. School starts tomorrow. We didn’t have any of the things from the supply list bought, didn’t have stuff for lunches yet, didn’t have outfits picked out , no forms filled out to return to school or really any thing done we would have normally done last week. And eggs had to go into lockdown tonight so needed to do all the things to prepare for that. Needless to say it was a long day and night . Dinner was after 8:30 when we finally got home from the store and then did all the things after. Kids are showered and asleep, eggs are in the hatcher and I’m finally laying down at 11:20 and will be back up at 5 to start tomorrow off. Will I learn a lesson from this? Probably not 😂😂 but Good luck on your first day kiddos!

Big shout out to the people who didn’t want this girl when she was going through the teen-uglies a few months back 😂 she stuck around so long that I said forget it and just kept her. I’m so glad I did bc she had the best glow up ❤️ lil mama is getting thick and just got put into the big girl pen. I have been saying this a lot lately but silkies really are a trust the process kinda chicken.

What’s your favorite silkie color? I love a nice crisp black with the gorgeous green sheen 😍 I have a hard time picking a favorite color but black is certainly one of my top ones.

Ok let’s talk feed.

First question here is do you buy your feed from a physical store or do you get it shipped to you? Which option is more cost effective for you and why?

Third question is for those of you that do purchase from an onsite store do you inspect the bags before buying?

‼️🚨Here recently there has been an influx in grain mites in the feed stores in my area and I’m just wondering if it is a nation wide thing? Grain mites are a problem because they eat all the nutrients out of the feed and leave behind the rest. You can tell this has happened when there is an excess of dust in the bag or if you see them when inspecting the bags outside. It is crucial that you inspect your bags before bringing them home.

(I did notify a manager and he was super sweet and said he’d get right on it and thanked me for letting him know!)

Friends and customers alike have told me they never even thought about looking at the bags and didn’t know these mites existed. The employee who I originally spoke to had no idea about them either.

Im tired of throwing money away and going through feed like crazy as it turns to dust before my eyes and the birds not getting the full nutrients! I’m kinda at my whits end here and know there has to be a better option so would love to know what works best for you and what you feed your flock. I’m feeling like my only option is to start ordering in bulk.
