We still don't know if this is an injury that can get better or a degenerative issue that could get worse. We will follow up with her vet.

Stay tuned for updates.

Welcome Miss Tilly to Humphrey House! 🌸

Meet our newest foster, the tiny but mighty Miss Tilly. At 2.5 years old, this little Chihuahua weighs only 3.7 lbs. She’s currently underweight, but she’s a champion eater and we expect her to be at a healthy goal weight in no time!

🐾 A Long Journey for a Short Life 🐾

Tilly has seen a lot of change since she was a puppy. After being surrendered to her groomer and moving through homes that weren't quite the right fit for her medical needs, she finally found her way to us.

As many of you know, I’ve had to take things slow lately. Between managing our current "behavior kids" and navigating my own recent MS diagnosis, I wasn't sure I could take on more—but how could I say no to this face?

💖 Two Peas in a Pod 💖

It turns out, Tilly and I have more in common than I thought. While dogs don't get MS, Tilly faces very similar physical hurdles:

She walks fine at times... just like me.
She drags a foot occasionally... just like me.
She trips over her own feet... just like me.
She prefers a lift up the stairs... just like me.

🩺 The Medical Road Ahead 🧑‍🦽

Recent X-rays showed reduced disc space and some concerns with her femoral neck. We aren't sure yet if this is from an old injury or an autoimmune issue, but we are starting her on pain management and anti-inflammatories. We’re also looking into PT, acupuncture, and laser therapy to get her feeling her best! If those fail, we will also be looking into a fancy set of wheels for her to get around. At her size, I may just strap her to a Hot Wheels car 🤣

🏠 What’s Next for Tilly?

Regardless of her physical "glitches," Tilly is the sweetest soul you could ever meet. For now, she is busy settling into a routine and soaking up every cuddle she can handle.

She is not yet available for adoption. Once she gains weight and is spayed, she will be looking for a special, understanding forever home.

📍 Humphrey House is located in Harford County, Maryland. We meet adopters by appointment only.

✨ Stay tuned for updates on Tilly’s progress!

You've probably noticed that we've been slow on intakes over the last few months.

I need to be brutally honest....

I'm drowning in behavior cases, in addition to navigating some personal health issues.

We often talk about "saving them all," but the reality is that senior dogs with behavioral challenges are the hardest to place. I am currently fostering three seniors who are struggling, and I need the community’s help to find them a safe path forward.

Ginger: 10 yrs old. Obese at 30 lbs. Pure bred Lhapso Apso. Severely neglected after her owner passed away 2 yrs ago. Typically keeps to herself but will try to bite if you try to put a collar or harness on her. Fully vetted and had a recent dental. She is so overweight that she has trouble walking and going up/down stairs. My home has 8 steps to go out to the yard, so she barely gets outside. It's just not fair to her.

Roscoe: at just 8 lbs and 8 yrs old, he is the most food aggressive dog we have ever had. If you walk within 10 feet of his food, he will charge and attack. A person and/or another dog. He is currently quarantined from the other senior dogs for their own safety. He does love going on walks and he will gladly play fetch with you and his squeaky toys.

Peanut: an 11 yr old, 10 lb chi. After 3 years, I still can't pet her or pick her up without her trying to bite. She is a happy girl, as long as you don't touch her. She even insists on being "tucked in bed" every night with her blankie. She has certainly settled into a routine after 3 years, so her placement is not as urgent as Ginger & Roscoe.

Decisions regarding their future must be made soon, and I am hoping for a miracle for these seniors.
They desperately need the professional help of a trainer and/or behaviorist before tough decisions are made. This is breaking my heart & I honestly don't know how I can move forward from this.

They are all fully vetted and located in Harford County Maryland. Please let me know if you are a trainer or behaviorist looking for a personal project. Thank you 💕

Adoption pending 🎉
Welcome Charlie back to Humphrey House.

Charlie came to us one year ago. He had been found as a stray in Baltimore but when the owner was contacted, they did not want him back.

Luckily, Charlie was quickly adopted into a loving home. A wonderful woman that only adopted seniors. As a senior herself, she didn't want young animals that would outlive her.

Sadly, his adopter passed away this week. She had 21 animals in her care. 2 dogs, 18 cats & a bunny. The bunny found a new home, Tucker, a senior min pin, went back to his original owner & we accepted Charlie back. The 18 cats are being helped by the rescue that TNR'ed them. We are so heartbroken for her family & everyone involved.

Charlie is once again looking for a loving home to live out whatever time he has left.

Charlie is a 15 year old Yorkie mix that weighs about 6 pounds. He is still very mobile but has limited vision. He does need a soft food diet.

Charlie is neutered & microchipped. He is having his vaccines updated this week. He has done great with the other small seniors and would love a furry companion to cuddle with.

Humphrey House is located in Harford County Maryland. We meet adopters by appointment only. Please reach out to give sweet Charlie a loving retirement home... For however long that might be.

Adopted 🎉

Update: their surgeries went well. Vidal had 5 extractions. He now has 3 teeth left. His blood work showed some kidney disease, so he will need to be monitored in the future with any adopter. My girl Bell had 12 extractions 😞 I am picking them up shortly.

Please send healing thoughts for Vidal today 🙏
After months of waiting, he is finally having his dental today 🎉

Vidal is in good company as my own girl, Bell, is also having a dental.

Vidal is 12 years old & super anxious today.
Bell will be 10 yrs old in April & has a heart murmur.

I know they're both in good hands at Homeward Bound Vet today 💕

Stay tuned for updates on Vidal & reach out with any adoption interest. Thank you!

A Miracle for Pixie: From Rescue to Recovery 💕

They say good things come to those who wait, and Pixie is the living proof.

For months, Pixie waited for a home but was passed over by every potential adopter. We used to wonder why—she’s sweet, resilient, and soulful. Now we know: she was simply waiting for the perfect family.

She finally found them, and the connection was instant. But just as Pixie was settling into her forever home, her family received some devastating news. Pixie needed a double hip replacement.

While many would have seen the "tens of thousands of dollars" price tag and walked away, Pixie’s family didn't blink. They chose her, and they are sticking by her. But a bill this size is a mountain for anyone to climb alone.

Time for a Post-Holiday "Re-Gifting"! 🎁

Let’s be honest—Christmas is over, and some of those gifts were... choices. We’ve all been there! So, instead of cluttering your house, why not clear your conscience and help a dog get some bionic hips?

Did your son really need that first car? Walking is great exercise! It builds character. Plus, gas prices are a nightmare. Donate the "clunker fund" to Pixie instead.

Is that Louis Vuitton handbag just not "you"? It’s okay, we won't tell! If the leather is clashing with your soul, trade the luxury for a wagging tail.

Did you get a gym membership you’ll never use? Cancel it! Save the monthly fee and help Pixie do the running for both of you.

Every dollar goes directly toward ensuring Pixie can live a pain-free life, chasing balls and lounging on the couch without a care in the world.

How to Help:

You can donate via the GoFundMe link below, OR you can make a tax-deductible donation through Humphrey House. We will ensure every cent is forwarded to Pixie’s adopters for her surgery.

Thank you all for being part of Pixie’s village. It took a long time for her to find her way home—let’s make sure she can stay there comfortably for years to come! 🐾

🎄 A Special Christmas Gift For Coco! 🎄

This Christmas, while everyone else was unwrapping toys and treats, 12-year-old Coco received the best gift of all: Freedom from the cone!

After undergoing surgery two weeks ago to have her eye removed, our brave little warrior took off her cone today & is officially available for adoption. She is feeling lighter, brighter, and is finally ready to find her forever lap just in time for the new year.

Coco is an 8 lb Morkie with a heart of gold and a resilient spirit. Despite her recent surgery and her "senior" status, she has a lot of love left to give.

Health Status: Coco has a known heart murmur; however, it is stable and she does not require any medication at this time.

Personality: She is a true companion dog. Her favorite place in the world is right next to her human.

Special Needs: Coco struggles with separation anxiety. She will cry when left alone, as she just wants to know her person is safe. Because of this, she needs a home where someone is around most of the day (perfect for retirees or those who work from home!).

Is Your Home Her "Forever" Home?

Coco is looking for a quiet, predictable environment where she can spend her golden years being pampered. If you have a soft spot for seniors and a couch that’s looking a little empty, Coco might be your perfect match.

Location: Humphrey House Rescue – Abingdon, MD (Harford County)

Inquiries: Please message us directly with any questions or to arrange a meeting.

From all of us at Humphrey House, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a happy holiday season.

Let’s help Coco make 2026 her best year yet!
Please Share! Even if you can’t adopt, one share could lead Coco to the person she’s been waiting for. 🐾

'Twas the night before Christmas
Here at Humphrey House
Not a creature is stirring
Not even a mouse 🐭

Roscoe is nestled all snug in his bed
While visions of squeaky toys dance in his head

Coco is asleep in her bed for the night
Peanut sees treats within her sight

Ginger is cozy, dreaming of a bone
Vidal looks forward to a home of his own

They think of the families they all once had
Sometimes the memories make them so sad

The hard times have passed
They have no more fear
They're now at Humphrey House
They are safe & loved here

They know not to worry, New homes are in sight
Merry Christmas to all & to all a goodnight 🎄

🐾 Update: Coco is Out of Surgery! 🐾

We have wonderful news to share! Our sweet 12-year-old girl, Coco, had her ruptured eye removed today, and she did absolutely amazing!

At just 8 lbs, with a heavy heart murmur and senior status, anesthesia was a significant risk. We were all holding our breath, but this little fighter pulled through beautifully.

Why We Chose a Full-Service Hospital:

While we always strive to be improved stewards of your donations, Coco’s safety was our priority. A low-cost clinic could have saved funds, but given her age and heart condition, she needed the specialized monitoring and capabilities of a full-service veterinary hospital. It was the only way to ensure she had the safest possible outcome.

Breakdown of Her Care Costs:

Today’s Surgery: $1,436
Pre-op visits, blood work & medications: $800
Total Investment in Coco's Life: $2,236

❤️ A Huge Thank You ❤️

We want to send a massive thank you to the skilled surgeon and team at Homeward Bound Urgent Care for taking such excellent care of Coco. And to YOU, our incredible donors—Thank You for making this level of care possible. We could not save high-risk seniors like Coco without your generosity.

What’s Next for Coco?

Coco is now resting comfortably. After a few days of recovery, she will be officially looking for her forever home!

Personality: Certified "Stage 5 Clinger." She wants nothing more than to be in your lap 24/7.

Dog Friendly: She has done well with the other small senior dogs in rescue.

Location: We are located in Harford County, Maryland.

Please keep Coco in your thoughts as she heals. If you are looking for a lap-warmer to spoil in her golden years, keep an eye out for her adoption post coming soon!

Update: Surgery went well. She is back at Humphrey House resting comfortably. I will make an updated post with photos & the receipt. Thank you to everyone that donated towards her surgery 💕

Please keep Coco in your prayers today as she has been cleared for surgery 🙏

This is a risky surgery due to her heavy heart murmur but euthanasia was our only other option. She can't just live with a ruptured eye. We refuse to give up without giving her a fighting chance. She deserves to be happy & pain-free in her senior years 💕

I know she is in the best hands at Homeward Bound Urgent Care. Please stay tuned for updates....
