Anyone that truly knows me knows that dogs are my life, professionally and personally. When I am not with my own,I am with someone elses.
Usually with any free time I have, its still includes an animal somehow. I cant imagine life without them.
Some know of the the journey we have been on and continue to be and there are those who do not. My family, friends, and clients have been there while I shared details and have remained right by my side as we have modified our world to fit the needs of our dog Ginger as she battles a recent diagnosis of Stage 2 cancer. We have alternated shifts to be able to provide bandage changes, daily soaks, weekly vet appts, medicine administration. We opted to move ahead with surgery with the understanding that there was a possibility the surgical team would not be able to remove the entire tumor because of the location. After visiting vet # 3 we walked in the door and heard the words we wanted to hear. "We are willing to do surgery,we are willing to do our best,we are willing to try." Ginger had her surgery, with weekly cast changes, driving 40 minutes each time. When her cast was removed,it was time to see the oncologist. That is where we left heartbroken, leaving with the news that our girl's cancer is aggressive and our girl has weeks left with us.I truly sympathize with those pet owners that want to give their pets what they need and feel so stuck and helpess when the cost of medicine and treatment is more than most families are prepared for. If you didnt know, radiation to treat cancer in an animal can be 10 to 15,000 dollars. And a monthly med to treat cancer,1000 a month.
You dont give up despite being heartbroken and feeling helpless. We sat in the vets office and thought lets think about what we CAN provide for our dog. Perspective is everything. We can continue to show her in every possible way what the definition of love and joy is. We have been prepping for weeks and today was Ginger's Day. We had a birthday party for her 9th birthday. What could we possibly give her at her party. Her favorite thing in this world..tennis balls. Ginger got her own ballpit filled with over 1000 balls, big and small, snacks and toys and of course her very own birthday cake! I want to thank Karas K9 Waffle Treats for the beautiful cake!Dr.Magnifico at Jarrettsville Vet Center Vet Center, every single person that has prayed, supported and loved us and our Gingergirl. Today her world, her heart, her soul was happy. This girl,is LOVED.
