It is with great pride that we announce that ICBD – Club Italiano Cani di Razza has submitted and received authorization to organize the major World Canine Show representing the World Dog Federation.

An extraordinary event created to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the founding of the WDF and to officially present the international canine selection project:

WORLD CANINE SCIENCE FEDERATION

📅 May 1–2, 2027
📍 Naples Area, Italy

Two unforgettable days entirely dedicated to cynology, scientific selection, animal welfare, responsible breeding and international excellence.

The event will welcome expert judges from several countries, together with breeders, handlers, national delegations, canine organizations and enthusiasts ready to experience a prestigious celebration combining professionalism, spectacle, emotion and the unique magic that only a major international event can create.

The first weekend of May has been selected because it represents one of the most favourable periods of the European dog-show season.

For this reason, ICBD will immediately begin an important selection programme in its Italian show rings, aimed at identifying and promoting the finest dogs capable of earning access to this historic world event.

The selection process will consider:

🏆 Morphological quality
🏆 Correct and functional movement
🏆 Health and physical condition
🏆 Behavioural balance and temperament
🏆 Harmony between dog and handler
🏆 Preparation and ring presentation
🏆 The overall quality of the breeding programme

Prepare your dogs.
Present your finest subjects.
Take part in the official ICBD selections.

This will not be just another dog show.

It will be a true celebration of world cynology: an international meeting between nations, technical cultures, breeders, judges and enthusiasts united under the flag of the World Dog Federation.

The programme will include international judging, specialized rings, handler competitions, breeder groups, inclusive categories, honour finals and the prestigious Best in Show.

The final venue, the international judging panel, registration procedures, qualifying events and the complete official programme will be announced progressively through the official WDF and ICBD communication channels.

European Dog Breeding Is Changing: Towards a Future Without Monopolies

For more than three decades, the European dog breeding community has often been viewed as if there were only one possible model for managing stud books and breeders' organizations. However, the evolution of European Union legislation tells a very different story.

The former Council Directive 91/174/EEC, now replaced by Regulation (EU) 2016/1012, established a fundamental principle: the movement of purebred breeding animals and the recognition of breeding organizations must be based on objective technical and legal criteria—not on the existence of a single dominant organization.

A New Vision for Dog Breeding

European legislation does not identify or designate any international canine federation as the sole authority responsible for representing purebred dog breeding.

Instead, it recognizes that breeding organizations may:
maintain stud books;
promote genetic improvement and breeding programs;
preserve breed characteristics;
apply scientific and technical standards for responsible breeding.
What truly matters is not the name of the federation, but the quality of its work, the transparency of its procedures, and its compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

The End of a Monopoly Mindset

For many years, countless breeders believed there was only one path to protecting and promoting their breeding programs.
Today, that reality has changed.

Across Europe and beyond, an increasing number of independent kennel clubs and breeding organizations operate responsibly, maintain their own stud books, and collaborate with breeders, veterinarians, and genetic specialists.

This diversity is not a threat.

It is a strength.

Healthy competition between organizations encourages innovation, improves services for breeders, promotes investment in genetic health, and raises overall breeding standards.

The Role of the WDF

The World Dog Federation (WDF) was founded with this philosophy in mind.

Not to replace existing organizations.

Not to create unnecessary divisions.

But to provide a modern, democratic, and international platform where each National Kennel Club can preserve its own identity while contributing to a global network built on cooperation, transparency, and mutual respect.

Every member club retains its independence, participates democratically in the Federation's decisions, and contributes to the development of a shared international system.

Building the Future Through Quality

The future of dog breeding cannot depend on monopolies.

It must be built upon expertise.

Transparency.

Scientific research.

Genetic health.

Animal welfare.

And cooperation among organizations that share common values.

Breeders deserve the freedom to choose.
National Kennel Clubs deserve equal dignity and recognition.

Purebred dogs deserve breeding programs founded on health, traceability, responsibility, and long-term genetic sustainability.

Together Towards a New Era

The WDF believes in a modern international dog breeding community where the value of an organization is measured not by market dominance, but by the quality of the work it performs every day.
The end of a monopoly culture does not mean division.

It means openness.

It means pluralism.

It means creating new opportunities, new tools, and new perspectives for breeders while fully respecting national and international legislation.

The future of dog breeding belongs to those who build, cooperate, and innovate.
