Bugün Türk dünyası büyük bir münevverini kaybetti.
İlber Ortaylı sadece bir tarihçi değildi.
O, Türk milletinin hafızasını diri tutan nadir bilge insanlardan biriydi.
Ömrünü Türk tarihini anlatmaya,
bu milletin köklerini hatırlatmaya,
devlet geleneğimizi ve medeniyetimizi savunmaya adadı.
Onun kürsüsü bir üniversite sınıfından ibaret değildi.
O kürsü, aslında Türk milletinin ortak hafızasıydı.
Bugün bir büyük hoca aramızdan ayrıldı.
Fakat fikirleri, kitapları ve öğrettiği tarih şu gerçeği hatırlatmaya devam edecek:
Türk milleti, hafızası olan bir millettir.
Ruhu şad, mekânı uçmağ olsun.
Türk milleti seni unutmayacak hocam.

Today, the Turkic world has lost one of its great intellectuals.
İlber Ortaylı was not merely a historian.
He was one of the rare scholars who kept the historical memory of the Turkish nation alive.
He devoted his life to teaching Turkish history,
to reminding this nation of its roots,
and to defending our state tradition and civilization.
His podium was never just a university classroom.
In truth, it was the shared memory of the Turkish nation.
Today, a great teacher has left us.
But his ideas, his books, and the history he taught will continue to remind us of one truth:
The Turkish nation is a nation with memory.
May his soul rest in peace.
The Turkish nation will not forget you, professor.
