Out of all the birthday options she had — art jamming, paint splattering, a pizza party, an escape room, or a photo session — she chose photography. And I’m really glad she did.
There’s something meaningful about choosing to capture memories instead of just spending a day on activities that will eventually pass. Watching her enjoy the session with her dog smiling naturally in front of the camera, made the shoot feel special.
Her mum trusted me to create something memorable for her birthday, and I’m thankful everything came together nicely. They were genuinely happy with the photos, and that always means the most to me.
Years from now, these photographs will still be here — a reminder of this age, this bond, and this little moment in time.

Dogs have apparently figured out how to take their own selfies now.
Perfect paw extension, direct eye contact, natural lighting, and somehow better angles than most humans.
Next thing you know, they’ll be demanding creative control and asking for the unedited RAW files.

Yuzu started the shoot being very shy and cautious of everything around her. Every little sound made her pause and she spent the first few minutes carefully observing me from a safe distance. But the moment treats appeared… slowly, her true personality started coming out. 😂

One treat at a time, she became more expressive, more curious, and much more dramatic with her reactions. From the sweet little smile to the hilarious tongue-out moments and that final chaotic expression — it honestly felt like watching her confidence level increase throughout the session.

This yearly shoot has become one of my favourite traditions over the past 5 years — watching them grow older but never outgrow their love for fun. Same dogs, same chaos, and somehow even more energy every single year whenever I photograph them.

Storm still growls at every dog he sees, completely ignoring whether the other dog is ten times his size, while Thunder takes his self-appointed role very seriously and immediately steps in to discipline him. The dynamic between them never fails to make me laugh.

The water shots are always my favourite. Shooting after the rain is such a bonus — while most dogs try to avoid puddles, these two seem personally offended if there isn’t enough water to splash through.
