He has been living in a cage since kittenhood because he doesn’t get along with the rest. He is not a ferocious kitty and definitely deserves better. The elderly caregiver took them in because cats were just dumped in front of her home. She recently got injured badly, when she attempted to break a fight between cats.

If you’ve no cats, willing to cat proof your home and take him in, please DM us.

P.S. This little gangster would escape and fight with cats if he has the chance 🐈‍⬛ He is a smart little boy

Mothering and 麻煩 (ma fan)

I was telling ZH ma fan may be the most often used phrase in the Chinese language. Parents telling their kids not to create ma fan. Ma fan is also a common reason given when asked why not to do something. Meaning of 麻煩 is similar to inconvenience. There is a similar term in Japanese too— 面倒臭い (mendōkusai)

Growing up, my mother told us not to be ma fan. However, she was the one who got us animals, organised overseas trips/outings and gave birth to us. Birthing us and having us as dependants were ultimate ma fan.

My mom took on more ma fan projects from us in the last few years, such as housing 2 paraplegic cats, overseeing renovation work at fur folks home, housing a rabbit because I asked for help and making us stilt pants. I think she realised she couldn’t avoid ma fan from us and decided to just embrace it.

This is a strange mother’s day post but what I want to say is we should all be more like mothers. Mothers confront ma fan by solving them. Life is made up of clusters of ma fan. You can avoid ma fan and live quietly in isolation or take on ma fan as it arrives and make new friends along the way.

The other day a client told us she felt guilty for letting her cat go. She already did her best and we all agreed it was time. Yet, when someone had to make an important decision like this, they couldn’t help but think of the what-ifs.

Most vets deal with a lot of guilt. Maybe it’s because our patients can’t talk. Maybe it’s because animals have shorter lifespan. Maybe it’s because we see death so often it becomes a part of us.

When I was a new graduate, I couldn’t stop ruminating after each long shift that ended after midnight. Could I have done it differently or could I have done it better?

I believe that the number of things that you feel guilty about increases over time as you live your life. Dwelling in guilt could be self-enforced hell. Perhaps we could transform our guilt to practical use. I encouraged this particular client to support other community cats within her capacity😬
