Your dog isn’t just learning commands from you. They’re learning YOU. 🐾

When we talk about having a strong bond with our dogs, I think we often focus on affection, loyalty and how well they listen to us.

But there’s so much more to it than that.

Every interaction we have with our dogs teaches them something about us. Whether we’re predictable, whether they can turn to us when things become difficult, and whether working with us is something they genuinely enjoy.

And the interesting thing is that building a stronger relationship can actually make our training more effective too.

We put so much focus on whether our dogs listen to us.

But I think there’s a more interesting question:

What does your dog learn about you when you train together?

Because surely the relationship underneath the training matters too. Trust, reinforcement history, communication, choice, emotional regulation and all of those little interactions over time can influence how willing our dogs are to engage with us when it actually matters.

This tattoo represents the four Stoic virtues: wisdom, courage, justice and temperance.

They’re values I try to live by across everything.

First with my family. Especially Freya. I want her to grow up seeing that strength is not about being hard. It is about thinking clearly, doing the difficult thing when it matters, treating people fairly and having control over yourself.

Then with dogs. Understanding before judging. Putting welfare first. Staying calm when emotions are high. Doing what is right for the dog, not simply what is easiest for the human.

And in business. Making hard decisions, treating people fairly, staying disciplined and not letting ego lead the way.

When Min 𝑴 𝒊 𝒏 𝒉 𝒖 𝒊 was preparing my tattoo, she had the foresight to print a couple of smaller stencils because she knew Freya would want the same tattoo as Daddy. She was right 😂 So Freya and Mummy ended up with their own temporary versions too.

Their stencils will only last a few days. Mine won’t.

But the most powerful part was getting to sit with my five-year-old and explain what each of those virtues means.

Hopefully she remembers the lesson long after her little tattoo has disappeared. ❤️
