💔🐾 SKYE — ANOTHER SEIZURE, ANOTHER BATTLE TO GET THROUGH. 😢

Our little 2-year-old Bengal girl, Skye, suffered another prolonged seizure episode today, with short breaks in between.

For almost an hour, I stayed by her side, trying to manage her seizures and keep her safe. 😮‍💨💔

Through months of caring for her, I’ve learned to recognise one of her warning signs. When Skye starts growling longer than usual, I know something may be coming.

And every time, my heart sinks.

After nearly an hour, she finally settled down. And guess what?

❤️ She finished TWO bowls of wet food and ONE bowl of kibbles, as though nothing had happened! 🥹

That’s our Skye. A little fighter who continues to surprise me.

With her FeLV-positive status, kidney condition, neurological problems and recurring seizures, her medical journey has never been easy.

There is no cure for many of her underlying conditions. All I can do is continue her veterinary care, manage her discomfort and give her the love and security she deserves.

I cannot promise her a long life.

But I can promise her this. ❤️

For however long she has left, she will never have to wonder where she belongs.

She has a home.

She has someone who will watch over her.

And most importantly, she will never be abandoned again.

At 2 years old, Skye should have had a carefree life. Instead, she faces medical battles that no young animal deserves.

Some people may question why we continue spending so much on a cat with multiple incurable conditions.

My answer is simple.

Because her life still matters. Because she still eats, responds, feels comfort and deserves to be loved. ❤️

🐾💔 PRETTY GAL — SHE NEVER LEARNED TO TRUST HUMANS, BUT SHE LEARNED WHERE HOME WAS. ❤️

Meet Pretty Gal, our 10-year-old blue-eyed beauty who has spent almost her entire life at 2ndChance Shelter Singapore.

Her story began at a busy industrial area in Tuas, surrounded by heavy vehicles and danger.

After reports of unsterilised stray cats, trapping operations were carried out. During the process, Pretty Gal suffered an injury to her nose, leaving it bleeding. 😢

We bailed her out from NParks and sent her for sterilisation, only to discover that she was just an 8–9-month-old kitten.

She was extremely feral, frightened of humans and impossible to rehome.

Releasing her back into the dangerous industrial area wasn’t an option. No community feeders were willing to accept her into their feeding areas either.

So we made a decision.

❤️ Pretty Gal would stay with us.

Ten years later, she is still here.

She has never caused trouble, never picked fights with the other rescued cats and has always preferred minding her own business.

But here’s something that still touches my heart. 🥹

Twice, Pretty Gal managed to open her enclosure gate and escape.

Yet she never ran away.

Instead, she sat quietly outside her enclosure, waiting to be let back in.

Perhaps she knew that beyond those gates, the world wasn’t always kind.

Despite remaining extremely cautious around humans, she recognises me during our daily cleaning and feeding routines.

Every veterinary visit or relocation still requires a professional trapper because she cannot be handled easily.

But one thing has never changed.

She may not want human affection, but she has chosen this little shelter as her home. ❤️

Not every rescue will become a lap cat. Not every rescued animal will learn to trust or accept cuddles.

Some simply want to be left alone, fed, protected and allowed to live peacefully.

And that’s perfectly okay.

At 2ndChance Shelter Singapore, we don’t measure an animal’s worth by how friendly, beautiful or adoptable they are.

Pretty Gal doesn’t owe us affection in return for saving her. She deserves safety simply because her life matters. 🐾

💔🐾 ALL HER KITTENS FOUND HOMES… BUT NOBODY WANTED MUMMY.

Meet Chendol, our 13–14-year-old senior tortoiseshell girl. ❤️

Years ago, Chendol was rescued from NParks while heavily pregnant. All her kittens were eventually adopted, but nobody chose her. 😢

Why? Because some people thought her tortoiseshell coat looked “dirty” and unattractive.

She was sent to my former clinic for sterilisation while waiting for a loving home that never came.

With too many rescues, I was advised to release her back onto the streets.

But how could I? 💔

Chendol was a sweet, domesticated girl who once knew what having a home felt like. She wouldn’t have survived on the streets.

So I brought her to 2ndChance Shelter Singapore.

And she has never left. ❤️

Today, Chendol is growing old with our other rescued seniors. She may never have been chosen by an adopter, but she will never be unwanted here. 🥹

🐾 DAY 4 — MEET LANCE: THE BOY WHO NEVER LEARNED TO TRUST HUMANS 💔

12 years old. A Siberian boy. A survivor of neglect.

Before COVID, Lance was surrendered to SPCA after being rescued from a heartbreaking hoarding situation.

Over 30 cats were living in terrible conditions, surrounded by hunger, neglect and deceased animals. 💔

A fellow rescuer helped bail Lance out, and we took in three of these forgotten souls at 2ndChance Shelter Singapore.

Of the three, one has since crossed the Rainbow Bridge 🌈, another found a loving forever home, and Lance remained with us.

Not because he wasn’t deserving of love.

But because Lance never truly learned how to trust humans.

Today, at 12 years old, Lance is battling:
🐾 Dementia
🐾 Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)
🐾 Heart conditions

He may not be the affectionate, cuddly cat everyone dreams of adopting. He may never come running for hugs.

But does that make his life any less precious? Absolutely not. ❤️

At our tiny independent sanctuary, we believe that even animals who cannot be rehomed deserve a safe place to grow old.

Lance doesn’t need to become friendly to earn our love.

He simply needs to know that he will never be abandoned again.

🥺 And that is the promise we made to him.

🐾 THE REALITY BEHIND OUR TINY SANCTUARY ❤️

We may have stopped rescuing, but the responsibility never stops.

Yesterday, we introduced Brownie, our 11-year-old senior who is now extremely weak and receiving oxygen therapy.

Today, we want to show you what goes on behind the scenes at 2ndChance Shelter Singapore.

Many people think that when a rescue stops taking in new animals, the expenses become smaller.

Unfortunately, that isn’t always true. 😔

Our remaining 21+ rescued cats are growing older, and many are living with serious medical conditions, including kidney disease, heart problems, FeLV, FIV, neurological conditions and behavioural challenges.

Some require lifelong medication. Others need special diets, regular veterinary reviews and additional nursing care.

And then there are seniors like Brownie, who need comfort and supportive care during their final journey. ❤️

EVERY MONTH, WE NEED TO PROVIDE:

🏠 $2,250 — Sanctuary rental

💊 Medications, supplements and ongoing treatments

🏥 Veterinary consultations, investigations and hospitalisation

🐾 200 packets of tofu litter

🥣 Prescription diets and special food

🚕 Veterinary transportation

These aren’t luxuries.

They are the basic necessities that allow our seniors to live safely and comfortably.

Behind every rescued animal is a responsibility that doesn’t end when they grow old or become sick.

And behind this tiny sanctuary, we are also growing older, juggling work, family, studies and our own health challenges.

Some days are exhausting.

Some days we worry about the next veterinary bill or whether we can cover the rental.

But when we look at our seniors, we are reminded why we continue.

They have already lost their homes once. We don’t want them to lose another. 💔

We may no longer be able to rescue hundreds of animals.

But we can still honour our promise to the ones who remain.

🐾 **FROM MY POCKET TO 11 YEARS TOGETHER — MEET BROWNIE ❤️**

Look at the first photo.

**That tiny little kitten was Brownie 11 years ago.**

A couple found Brownie and her siblings on the street and brought them to the clinic where I was working, hoping we could help.

They took home the healthier kitten.

**Brownie stayed with me.**

She was so tiny and fragile that I wasn't even sure she would make it.

To keep her warm, I used to carry her around **inside my chest pocket**, close to my body, throughout the day.

She needed warmth. She needed care.

Most of all, she needed a chance.

And Brownie took that chance. ❤️

**She survived.**

Days became months.
Months became years.

And somehow, that tiny kitten in my pocket became the senior you see in the next photographs.

**Brownie is now 11 years old.**

Today, things are very different.

Our girl has become extremely weak and we know we may be approaching the final part of her journey.

She is receiving oxygen therapy to help keep her comfortable. Her oxygen machine was kindly sponsored by **Ms Lynn**, something we are incredibly grateful for at this difficult time. ❤️

Eleven years ago, I carried Brownie close to me because she needed help staying alive.

Today, I stay close for a different reason.

**So she knows she isn't alone.**

We aren't asking our old girl to fight endlessly.

We want her comfortable.

We want her safe.

We want her surrounded by the home, smells and voices she has known for almost her entire life.

This is also what **2ndChance** has become.

Sometimes rescue is saving a tiny kitten.

Sometimes sanctuary is staying beside that same kitten **11 years later when she has grown old.**

Brownie was given her second chance.

**And what a beautiful 11 years she gave us in return. ❤️**

🐾 WE USED TO FIND THEM HOMES.
NOW, WE ARE THEIR HOME. ❤️

We didn’t begin as a sanctuary.

We started small—fostering and helping cats and dogs from abandonment and surrender cases, hoarding situations and rescue cases. Some needed a safe place after coming through agencies such as NParks and SPCA.

Back then, we were known as Rescued Cats for Adoption.

Our mission was simple:

Rescue. Care. Rehome.

Then, the number of animals needing help grew.

During the COVID period, more than 100 rescued cats passed through our tiny HDB home. Somehow, we made space.

We fed them.
Cleaned after them.
Brought them for treatment.
And, most importantly, tried to find them homes.

Over the years, more than 1,000 cats have been rescued, supported or rehomed through our journey. 🏠🐾

But time changes everything.

The rescuers have grown older too.

Today, we juggle work, family, studies and our own challenges—while continuing to care for the animals who stayed behind.

Many of them are now seniors.

Some have serious long-term or end-stage medical conditions. Others have behavioural issues that make finding another home extremely difficult.

So, we made an important decision:

We stopped taking in new rescues.

Not because we stopped caring.

But because we need to keep our promise to the ones already here. ❤️

Today, 2ndChance has become a tiny, independent animal sanctuary.

These seniors are no longer waiting for someone to adopt them.

This IS their home.

There will still be difficult days.
