It’s so rewarding when you see all your hard work pay off! 💪🏻

Willow has been a little nervous in new places, especially around loud noises, barking dogs, and busy environments in general.

Several times a week, I’ve driven into our small but busy local town to slowly expose her to new experiences. Some days she’s been brave, while other days she’s put her tail between her legs and just wanted to go home. I’ve tried my best not to push her and always take things at her own pace.

At home, we also have “the adventure barn”, where I bring out strange new objects for her to explore and play with every week.

Today, all that hard work really showed when we took a trip to the train station. There was a loud tractor scraping the road, a train whizzing past, and people walking around—and Willow was so happy to explore it all! We even did a tricky Kong search on a tractor, which she solved brilliantly.

So proud of her today! 🥰

First line-up done!! 🎉
She comes in like a wrecking ball but she finds the Kong no problem. 👌

I realise my marker word is not so great, because she basically ignores it here 🙈 it could also be the high arousal level. Will try a clicker next time.

A little clip from our morning walk. 🐾
We practise a little heel waking, a little recall and search training of course!

I’ve been working on keeping the Kong close to her start line because she does rush out to the grass to start with and I want her to start using her nose straight away. This time she did really well!

I have also just got my new large scent pots so we will be trying lineups soon. So excited!

Willow’s search drive coming along nicely. 🥰

We practice this every day and today I threw it quite far in to the high grass, and she managed to find it way faster than I thought! 🎉

We are building up to her searching for 5 minutes without stopping before moving on to lineups.

Willow is now 12 weeks old and she's growing so fast! 🌿

She's a big girl, weighing 5.6 kg and standing about 27 cm tall. Also more and more black spots are showing up in her white fur, so cute! ❤️

She is still a total landshark, and though she's all over the place at home, she can be a bit more unsure in new environments. Because of this, we are continuing to work on building positive associations with new places.

She also met a new friend last week—a one-year-old Golden Retriever. Willow was very hesitant at first, which was no wonder as the Golden girl was quite intense! However, Willow was curious, kept going back for more, and finally went all the way up to her. After a nap in the car, they were both a lot calmer, mostly just sniffing gently and walking around each other.

Her lead work is coming on really well, and she happily trots next to me on walks. Bruce has still not played with her yet, and he can get quite annoyed when she tries to bite him. But sometimes—like this morning—I find them cuddled up together, so there is hope! 😍

We have also done a few retrieves of her Kong in long grass, and she really seems to enjoy searching for toys and food. This is key, and it's something I will build on when we start her scent dog training. Her nose is almost constantly sniffing when we are outside, and bird p**p is apparently a delicacy... 🤢

Our biggest goal for next week is to keep working on that confidence in new environments! 🤩
