Mają też jedną naprawdę ciekawą i stosunkowo rzadko spotykaną cechę, potrafią strydulować, czyli wydawać dźwięki poprzez pocieranie o siebie określonych struktur ciała.

All isopods are amazing, but for quite some time now I’ve had a particular soft spot for the genus Armadillo, especially Armadillo officinalis. Although Armadillo tuberculatus and Armadillo sp. “Cyprus Hallumi” are also incredibly beautiful and interesting.
Armadillo officinalis are large, robust pill bugs, with quite a lot of colour variation between different varieties. They also have one really interesting and relatively uncommon ability: they can stridulate, meaning they produce sounds by rubbing specific structures of their bodies against each other. Interestingly, they do this while curled up into their characteristic little ball.
Below is a little overview of the varieties I currently keep or have had pass through my hands ;)
All varieties are labelled under the photos, but there’s a little plot twist- the first and the last photo show two of my own little breeding projects. Please keep your fingers crossed for me and wish me luck! I’m expecting this to be a long process requiring quite a lot of patience 😅
