Yesterday, we received an emergency call for a Black Shepherd whose choke chain had become deeply embedded in the skin, causing a painful wound and requiring immediate intervention.

Our veterinary team reached the patient for a home visit and performed the procedure under injectable general anesthesia. The embedded choke chain was carefully removed and the affected site was treated.
On the other side, the dog also had a severe maggot-infested wound (myiasis) with a heavy maggot load. The maggots were thoroughly removed and the wound was cleaned and managed.
Thankfully, the entire procedure went smoothly. ❀️
After recovery, he was active, comfortable, and doing well. 🐢✨

This case is also a reminder that choke chains should never be left tight or unchecked, as they can become embedded in the skin and cause serious wounds.
🩺 Timely veterinary care can prevent a small injury from becoming a life-threatening infection.
